The Rector chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) is preparing for its biggest fundraiser of the year with the group's annual auction and dinner set to take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Rector Community Center.

"The money we raise from this is used to help pay for all the things we do in FFA," said chapter president Hannah Scott. "Without this fundraiser, we probably wouldn't be able to do all the different things we do during the year."

The dinner and auction also represent a tremendous amount of effort on the part of FFA members.

"We've been working super hard," said vice president Logan Miller. "It's something we look at all year. We actually got started before Christmas."

First year adviser Craig Dewey and his students were assisted by numerous local businesses and organizations in their efforts. The group received many high-quality items through donations.

"We appreciate all the businesses and people who have donated and helped us out," said Miller.

The variety of items means there will likely be something for everyone at the auction. The list of items include: a Razorback baseball getaway featuring a two-night stay at the Clarion Inn in Fayetteville, as well as series tickets for three Razorback games against Georgia on April 16-18; a mini Razorback football helmet autographed by Darren McFadden; a Razorback football autographed by Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett; a Razorback lamp; an assortment of women's purses, wallets and jewelry; a large variety of tools; Round-Up; an assortment of metal toy tractors; a hydraulic scissor-lift table; assorted tie-downs and hitch pins; a Craftsman tool box; six mallard decoys and homemade duck calls; OP sunglasses; boat seats; a recliner from Underwood Furniture; an assortment of horse tack; a variety of knives, and a Delta 10-inch tilting arbor saw.

Auctioneers for the event will be Rodney McClelland, Michael Hollis and Dewey.

The meal will include fish and chicken, French fries and additional sides. Plates are $8 for adults and $4 for children.

The dinner is set to begin at 6 p.m. with the auction following at 7 p.m.

"It'll be a lot of fun for the community," Scott said. "We're going to have great food, and there are so many great items in the auction. We'd like to invite the whole community to come out. It should be a great time."
