Rector has struggled some in the early going, but Mills feels like his team is too strong to not bounce back and take their game to another level.
"There's not a doubt in my mind that we're capable of playing better than we have," Mills said. "We haven't played that badly so far, but I know we're better than we've shown so far. We've got to keep working hard to play to our ability. I've seen signs of what we can do; we just need to put together on a regular basis."
The Cougars began the season 0-3 with losses to Manila, Pocahontas and Batesville-Southside. Rector topped Armorel, but fell to CRA prior to the Thanksgiving break.
The Junior Cougars fell to Manila and Pocahontas, but rallied back by beating CRA and Armorel.
"We've got some freshmen with a lot of good experience in junior high," Mills said. "Right now, we're working with our eighth graders to help them come along. When we get to that point, I think we're going to be very good and give other teams some matchup problems."
After visiting Trumann, the Cougars will host Black Rock beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Rector is slated to visit Cross County next Tuesday before Marked Tree comes to town next Friday.
