Vernelia Smith

Vernelia Smith of Marmaduke departed this life on Friday morning, May 29, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was a member of Cappadocia General Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Farrell "Shorty" Smith; one son, Ronald Smith; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Braden, and one great-grandson, Justin.

Survivors include one daughter, Gayla Davis of Marmaduke; three grandchildren, Richie and Tammy Brady of Marmaduke, Chris and Shelly Brady of Paragould and Angie and David Cox of Paragould; four great-grandchildren, Angel, Shanna, Austin and Colton; one great-great-granddaughter, Lacie, and one brother, James Braden of Marmaduke.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Brother Ronnie Stevens officiating. Interment followed at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Visitation was held Sunday, May 30, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel.

Active pallbearers included Aaron Speer, Stacy Speer, Mike owell, Don Parrish, Johnny Williams and Chad Agee.

Arrangements were by Irby Funeral Home of Marmaduke.
