Area youth deserve recognition

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
To the Editor: An amazing group of young people in our town need some recognition. Several of our teenagers worked in the Community Center kitchen on Labor Day helping to prepare, serve and clean up after the noon meal, which this year drew a record crowd.

They were on their feet for hours, working hard and never complaining. They actually were cheerful and seemed glad to help out.

I would like to express my thanks and admiration to Erick Shavalia, who offered to take a larger role in the future if needed, and to Susie Bell, Clinton Haley, Tyler Kirklin, Sarah Vangilder, Kristie Hardin, Kelsey Shavalia, Breanna Benson, Chelsea Benson, Gabriele Haney and Mallory Tippitt.

There also were other young people working out in the park who had the same positive attitude. I don't know their names, but they, too, are to be commended.

Thanks, also, to the many adults who worked so hard this year, making our meal one of the most successful ever. We very much appreciate you all and your contribution to this year's wonderful Labor Day Picnic.

Sincerely,

Paul and Cheryl Schwager
