Stolen goods recovered

Thursday, July 10, 2008
A routine traffic stop Sunday morning in Marmaduke yielded more than expected.

Around 1:30 a.m., officer Matt McClung of the Marmaduke Police Department stopped a late-model pickup truck for failing to use a turn signal, as well as having no back glass. According to the police report, McClung, who was backed by two deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Office, spoke to the driver and received consent to search the vehicle, which had two others passengers.

During the search, a pipe believed to have been used for the purpose of smoking marijuana was found. Several suspicious items, including four VCRs, were found in the back of the truck.

Officers also found a briefcase containing a number of receipts bearing the name of a known Marmaduke resident. When the resident was called and asked about the location of his briefcase, he went outside his home to check a vehicle where the briefcase had been and noticed his vehicle door open and the dome light in his son's car on.

The three men were taken into custody.

Later in the morning, McClung received several calls from Marmaduke residents reporting their vehicles had been burglarized. Several of the items matched the description of objects found during the arrest.

The men have been charged with four counts of felony breaking and entering and three counts of theft of property. The suspects are listed as Shaun Ludwig, 29, of Little Rock, Alvin Cole, 20, of Paragould and Adam Walker, 18, of Paragould. The trio currently is being held at the Greene County Jail. Ludwig is being held on a $50,000 bond. Walker and Cole are being held on bonds of $25,000.

Lieutenant Shane Martin of the Marmaduke Police Department said approximately 85 to 90 percent of the items Marmaduke residents reported stolen have been returned. However, there were several items found which were not reported stolen in town. Martin says these items may have been taken from other nearby towns and areas.

Also a concern of the MPD is the fact none of the vehicles illegally entered were locked. Martin suggests all residents remember to lock their vehicles at night as a deterrent for future thefts. He also reminds residents to call and report any odd noises or strange sights in an effort to prevent such crimes before they happen.
