It was a banner season for the Glen Sain nine and ten-year-old baseball team. The squad started off on the right foot, winning the Rector Preseason Tournament. The youngsters never looked back from their hot start, finishing the season with an unblemished 19-0 record.

The 10 players who made up the Glen Sain team include Hayden Winberry, Garrett Buck, Austin Beck, Lawson Ford, Matthew Hynds, Case Watson, Easton Tracy, Kasen Greene, Danny Hager and Chito Ramirez. The squad was coached by Kirk Ford and Cliff Winberry.

Ford says the team's success comes from the will of the players.

"These kids made this happen. It wasn't anything we (the coaches) did. They all love the game. They want to be out here everyday. They want to do the best they can. That's the kind of attitude they have. They just love playing baseball. They're as ready to go out there and play on the last day as they are the first. That kind of mindset makes them easy to coach."

Not only did the team play other talented clubs from the area, they also faced squads from other towns such as Senath and Kennett.

"We played some really good teams," Ford said. "For these boys to go the whole season without a loss really says something about how hard they've worked. Like I said, they made this happen themselves. They were willing to put in the time. Every one of them wants to go out there and get better. They're competitive and they want to be the best."

Many of the boys have played together before, either as part of the Glen Sain team or on various all-star squads. That level of familiarity may be building a solid core which will continue to find success in the future. Ford says this group has the potential to be something even more special in the future.

"If they keep it up and stick with it like they have so far, there's no telling what they'll be like when they're older. They're already a lot of fun to watch."

The coaches would like to thank all the fans and supporters who followed the team this season. They would also like to thank Glen Sain Motor Sales of Rector and the players' parents for their efforts.
