John N. Speer, 77, of Oak Park, Mich., a native of Rector, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his home.

He was born April 5, 1931, in Rector, to the late John H. and Ida Speer.

He retired from Consumers Power after 42 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse C. Speer.

Survivors include one son, John H. Speer III and wife Claudette of Oak Park; one daughter, Jacquelyn Speer of Royal Oak, Mich.; sisters, Berniece Wooten, Freeda Everett and Anna Louise Thompson, all of Rector; one brother, Norman C. Speer of Kansas City, Kan., and one grandchild.

Private services were held with Sullivan and Sons Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
