Big crowd at state tourney here

The weather was perfect and the crowds were large as Rector hosted its first-ever state tournament Friday afternoon.

The Class 2A State Softball Tournament opened at noon at Jeremy McDaniel Memorial Sports complex as 16 teams from all over the state took part in the competition.

There were lots of compliments about the local facility and the organization of the tournament under director Mark Manchester.

Here were the scores in the first day:

Foreman 9, Bay 0

Johnson County Westside 2, Des Arc 1

Woodlawn 10, Magazine 1

Junction City 4, Cedar Ridge 2

Western Yell County 2, Bearden 0

Parkers Chapel 11, Midland 2

Dierks 7, Tuckerman 2

McCrory 1, Jessieville 0

Games Saturday include:

Foreman vs. Westside, 12:00, Field 2

Western Yell County vs. Parkers Chapel, 12:00, Field 1

Woodlawn vs. Junction City, 1:45, Field 2

Dierks vs. McCrory, 1:45, Field 1

The semifinals are at 4 and 6 on Monday.
