Estelle Lucinda Hampton Shelton

Estelle Lucinda Hampton Shelton, 97, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, after a long life of devotion and love to her children and extended family.

She was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Clay County to Haywood and Mary Hampton. She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended Union Central Church of Christ until she became confined to her home.

Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Shelton; her son, Chester Shelton; an infant daughter, Lottie Nadine; a son-in-law, Vernon Stokes; a great-grandson, Jeffrey Mudry, seven brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Junior and Arletta Shelton of Pevely, Mo., William and Barbara Shelton of Marmaduke, Danny and Brenda Shelton of DeSoto, Mo., and Barry and Cheri Shelton of Paragould; four daughters and their husbands, Bobbie and Bud Howell and Mary and Rondle Damron, all of Paragould, Janis and Bill Chittenden of St. Ann, Mo., and Linda and Johnny Nelson of Marmaduke; a daughter-in-law, Judy Shelton of Marmaduke; 29 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Eulell Jones Morten of Paragould, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Tim Wooldridge, Scotty Hickson and Charles Abanathy officiating. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

Grandsons Josh Chittenden, David Nelson, Vance Shelton, Sam Shelton, John Williams, Mark Shelton and Tim Shelton served as pallbearers. Her other grandsons were honorary pallbearers.
