Born March 27, 1944, in Drain, Ore., he attended Rector High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Shields and Nellie Shields Tyler; one son, Bill Shields Jr., and his stepfather, Corbett Tyler.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Nelson Shields; his children, Eric Shields and Justin Shields of Atlanta, Ga., Tammy Kimano of Atlanta, Jason Hobbs of Sherwood and Dawn Upshaw of Tulsa; his grandchildren, Jason, Kayla and Jasmin, Kimano, Kaitlyn and Madison Shields and Brittany and Blaine Upshaw; two brothers, Nathan Shields of Eugene, Ore., and Danny Shields of Paragould; three sisters, Donna Adami of Benton, Martha Stephen of West Sacramento, Calif., and Betty Shields of Spokane, Wash.; 10 nephews and nieces, and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Bro. Paul Seegraves officiating. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway.
