Mrs. Holifield was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Clay County to the late Johnny and Lura (Pickens) Carpenter. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She served at one time as a substitute teacher and had a teaching certificate. She also was an office clerk for the Clay County tax assessor's office.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Berlyss Holifield; one great-grandson, Zachary Gore, and two sisters, Lorene Crowson and Ila Hester.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Michael and Patsy Holifield of Jonesboro; her daughter and husband, Anita and Claude Gore of Wappapello, Mo.; one brother, Johnny Carpenter Jr. of Marmaduke; one sister, Georgia Yost of Piggott; five grandchildren and their spouses, Pamela and Tony Heaton, Claude Gore III and Wendi, Chad and Stephanie Holifield, Jacqueline and Mark Headlee and Heather and Trey Bowers; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Mark, Kathleen and Dawn Gore, Michael, Casey and Shelby Heaton, Hannah and Hayden Headlee, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 5) at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Bro. Marston Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
