W.C. "Bill" O'Connor

W.C. "Bill" O'Connor, 89, of Marmaduke died Friday, July 6, 2007, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

A retired safety engineer with Southern California Edison Company, he was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to the late Frank and Frances (Stripling) O'Connor. He was married Aug. 15, 1945, in Modesto, Calif., to Joy Ruth (Triplett) O'Connor, who survives.

He was a member of the Marmaduke First United Methodist Church, a Mason for more than 50 years and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Ruth O'Connor, of the home; three sons, Michael Patrick O'Connor of Laguna Hills, Calif., Timothy Shawn O'Connor of Yucaipa, Calif., and John Kevin O'Connor of Diamond Bar, Calif.; one daughter, Maura Sue O'Connor-Hugh of Paso Robles, Calif.; one sister, Joyce Mae Hines of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Shannon, Kelly, Mary, Ashley, Erin and Allison; one step-grandson, Alex, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Marmaduke with Lynn McClure and Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial was in Warren's Chapel Cemetery near Walcott with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers were James Stallings, Brent Stallings, Jerry Don McIntosh, Harry Gibson, David Hensley and Tommy Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Hamilton, T.L. Jenkins, Daniel Hensley and Monty Stallings.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the O'Connor Scholarship Fund at Regions Bank.
