Jean Miles was raised in Rector. Always a beauty, she was Miss Rector in 1957. She worked in the concession stand at Ford Theater during high school. With her knack for hair styling, she began working in a beauty shop after school when she was 13. She attended cosmetology school in Jonesboro after graduation from Rector High School.
She and her husband worked together in their business, The US Male-Female. As a perm specialist, and later the receptionist and shop manager, Jean came in contact with hundreds of people. Everyone loved her. Her huge smile and big brown eyes lit up a room and one's heart. Her joy in life was her family and her friends. She accepted Christ as a child and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She is described as "the epitome of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend." Her family members say she was "loving and giving beyond description" and that Proverbs, Chapter 31, is an apt description of her.
The funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Rex M. Horne Jr. officiating. Graveside services were at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
Pallbearers were Robert Holifield, Bud Gray, Michael Long, Donnie Miles, John Miles and Phillip Miles. Honorary pallbearers were Al Getchell, Phil Duncan, Chuck Taylor, Leland Blackshare, Tony Pruitt, Joe Griffith, Dicky Miles, Charles Crow, Paul Miles, Carl Huneycutt and Jim Bain.
