Vera Demetra Burton

Vera Demetra Burton, 96, of Brookland, formerly of Rector, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at her home.

Born Dec. 26, 1909, in Boydsville to the late James Bateman and Fronia (Wallace) Bateman, she was a homemaker, of the General Baptist faith, was active in mission work and taught Sunday School for many years. She also was in daycare for many years.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Elmo Burton, on March 17, 1995; brothers, Cecil, Lee and Claude Bateman, and one son, Ebert Burton, in October 1998.

Survivors include one son, James Burton of Rogers; one daughter, Atchie Bramlett of Brookland; two sisters, Ninnie Irby of Sallisaw, Okla., and Geneva Bearden of Lake City; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 9, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Jack Bearden and Bro. Thurman Holt officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs Cemetery at Knob with Irby Funeral Home of Rector in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Stan Nutt, Charles Prichard, Mickey Gene Burton, Pete Nutt, Mickey Burton and Michael Burton.
