A farmer and longtime resident of this area, he was born July 8, 1926, in Tallapoosa, Mo., to O.C. Faries, who died in April 1993, and Berta Regina Underwood Faries, who died in June 1988.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Hope Faries, on Jan. 7, 1985; a grandson, Jon Faries, on Jan. 8, 1997, and a daughter-in-law, Shelia Faries, in 1999.
He was married in 1988 to Louise Collins Faries. He was a member of the Blue Cane General Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Faries of Rector; one son, Michael Faries of Rector; one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Terry Dills of Cabot; five step-children, Pam and Gary Ward of Jonesboro, Buddy and Iva Fahr of Rector, Pete Fahr of Lafe, David and Leigh Ann Jones of Rector and Brad and Caroline Jones of Arlington, Texas; three grandchildren, Greg and Stacey Dills, Jared and Patti Dills and Matt and Stacey Faries; nine step-grandchildren, Brandi and Kevin McFadden, Jason and Carol Morris, Sarah and Matt Rabjohn, Cindy and Greg Carter, Christina Ward, Amanda Jones, Kameron Jones, Kylee Beshears and Kirk Beshears, seven great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 19) at Irby Funeral Home in Rector.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Rector First Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Dills and Rev. James Henry Dortch officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
Active pallbearers will be Avery George, David Jones, Buddy Fahr, Gary Ward, Bradley Jones and Pete Fahr. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Baker, Kenneth Foster, Dewey Shelton, Larry Craig, Bryan Hartwell and Ron Zoeman.
