Charlie Jones

Longtime Piggott businessman Charlie Jones, 69, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at his home in Piggott.

Jones co-owned Jones Furniture with his son, Kevin, for the last 27 years. He previously farmed in Leonard and worked for 30 years for Crockett Oil Company in Rector.

Jones was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Leonard to the late Jim and Cerella Trantham Jones and was married May 19, 1957, to the former Barbara Turnbo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott during the last four years and was a member of the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce. He served four years with the National Guard in Rector.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jones of Piggott; one son, Kevin Jones of Piggott; two daughters, Kellie McPherson of Paragould and Diane Winchester of Piggott; six grandchildren, Jade, Jake, Krista, Justin, Chase and Haley; one great-granddaughter, Natalee, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 4) at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott with Kevin Murray officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Don Featherston, Rick Pearson, Gary Magee, Ricky Osban, Jim Osban and Danny Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Jones, Justin Winchester, Chase McPherson, Tom Sneed, Gerayne Poole, Junior Wiley and Neal Smith.
