Floyd Thomas Young

Floyd Thomas Young, 85, of Rector died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

The son of the late Tommy and Vesta (Brewer) Young, he was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Clifton, Tenn. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Laverne (Knight) Young, on April 15, 1995; a son, Von Darrell Young, on Dec. 14, 1975, and a brother, Henry Young.

He was a farmer and was of the Protestant faith. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Franklin Young of the home and Kelsey Glenn Young of Braidwood, Ill.; three daughters, Linda Laabonne Ricketts of New Market, Ala., Jeanette Watkins of Gosnell and Rita Green of Rector; one brother, Earnest Young of Tehachapi, Calif., his companion and beloved friend, Jerlene Fowler of Rector; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Rector United Pentecostal Church (New Life Christian Center). Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the United Pentecostal Church in Rector with Rev. Phillip Larue officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector. Irby Funeral Home of Rector is in charge of arrangements.
