A 33-year resident of Coronado, Calif., Mr. Champlin is survived by his life-partner Betsy Roick; his children, Jim and his wife Linda; Katie and her husband Simon, and Marcie; his sister, Carolyn, of Fredericktown, Mo.; his grandchildren, Sarah and Jake, and sister-in-law, Mary Crews of Maumelle.
Mr. Champlin was born in Blue Eye, Mo., and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. He served for 20 years in the United State Marine Corps, retiring as a Major in 1977. Following his military service, he worked as a traffic design engineer for the California Transportation Department for 20 years, retiring again in 1998.
Services were held April 12 in Coronado. A second service was held April 15 in Rector, where cremation ashes were interred at Woodland Heights Cemetery.
