Violet Rebecca Poe, 74, of Marmaduke, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Paragould Nursing Center.

She was born March 19, 1930, in Childress, Ark., the daughter of the late Rev. John Markin and Gracie Pearl (Pruitt) Markin.

She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in this community. She was married to Burl Poe Oct. 19, 1946.

She was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church where she taught children, and played piano and organ for more than 50 years. She also helped with vacation Bible School, Nursing Home Ministry, Ladies Prayer Group and helped with the American Heart Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Dureaen, Duwel, Neal, Oshel and James Markin.

Survivors include her husband, Burl Poe of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Melvin Burl and Darylon Poe of Union City, Tenn., Rev. David and Nancy Poe of Paragould and Rick and Kimberlee Poe of Bryant, Ark.; Janet Stone of Marmaduke, who was like a daughter to her; three sisters, Pat Keith of Hemet, Calif., Nettie Faye Bowman of Marmaduke and Flora Jean Chandler of Shelbyville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Melanie Martin, Brad Poe, Shaniece Gipson and Mikah Oxner; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial was in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Nathan Stone, Tim Stone, Brad Poe, Gene Bennett, Jerry Don McIntosh and Mike Tarr.
