Frances Oveda Allen, 77, of Newport, formerly of Rector, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, in Newport.

She was born July 1, 1926, in Rector to the late Willard and Claire Williamson and was married in 1946 to Dewitt Talmadge Allen Jr., who preceded her in death in 1991. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Williamson.

Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She also was a member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Michael W. Allen Sr. of Newport; three grandchildren, Michael W. Allen Jr. and wife, Julie, of Newport, Sara C. Allen of Fayetteville and John D. Allen of Newport, and one great-grandchild, Jessica L. Allen.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Walnut Grove Cemetery with Rev. John Childress officiating.

Pallbearers were Harold Erwin, John Conner Jr., Donald Ray Smotherman, Mike Brown, John Minor and William H. Keedy Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Ed Scoggins, Ed Michaes, Joe Nuckolls, William H. Keedy Sr. and Joe Taylor Sr.

Jackson Newport Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
