He was born April 28, 1939, in Tuskegee, Ala., to the late Curtis Tyson and Sarah Kilpatrick Tyson.
He was a non-denominational minister and had lived in the community for 12 years.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Ballentine Tyson, on June 23, 1991; two brothers, Ronald and Thomas Tyson, and an infant sister.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Jimmy Hardin of Marmaduke and Carla and Walter Blagg of Mammoth Spring; three grandchildren, Sharice whitaker, Ashley Hardin and Zoe Blagg; a great-grandchild expected soon; seven brothers, Curtis Tyson of Stockbridge, Ga., Robert Tyson of Pascagoula, Miss., Roy Tyson of Vero Beach, Fla., Horace Tyson of Auburn, Ala., Donald Tyson of Eclectic, Ala., Mickey Tyson of Opelika, Ala., and David Tyson of Alex City; one sister, Lavinia Davis of Cummings, Ga., and one grandson-in-law, Bradley Whitaker of Marmaduke.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 12) at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Marmaduke with Marston Carpenter and Gene Day officiating. Burial will be in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be his nephews and the Hardin boys.
