He was born Sept. 14, 1911, in Greene County to the late Jesse Green Gibbs and Edna (Reed) Gibbs.
He was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Juanita (Jackson) Gibbs and Frances (Copeland) Gibbs; one daughter, Helen F. Gibbs; one step-son, Joseph Copeland; two brothers, Alvin and Albert Gibbs; and one sister, Marie Hall.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Vickie) Gibbs of Festus, Mo., Danvis Gibbs of St. Louis; one step-son, Bill Copeland; two step-daughters, Heneritta (Rennard) Harris of Bellville, Ill., and Dorothy (Roger) Weaver of House Springs, Mo.; one sister, Marie Hall; 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery west of Rector with the Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating.
Irby Funeral Home of Rector was in charge of arrangements.
