Dessie M. Matheney, 88, of Rector died Sunday Nov. 9, 2003, at Lake Side Nursing Home in Lake City.

She was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Lafe to the late John Louis Walker and Anna (McCoin) Walker.

She was a homemaker, a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church and a lifelong member of this community. She married Woodrow Wilson Matheney on Nov. 11, 1934. He died March 24, 1981.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Alfred Matheney; three brothers, Burl Walker, Delbert Walker and Chester Walker; and one sister, Monta Hatch.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Velus and Norma Matheney of Bridgeton, Mo., Lewis Elton and Glenna Matheney of Jonesboro and Oran and Carolyn Matheney of Boydsville; one sister, Ella Grayson of Sullivan, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Dana Lohman, Keith Matheney, Pam Wallace, Mike Matheney, Tim Matheney, Lisa Jones, Jeff Matheney, Tina Simpson, Warren Matheney, Windell Matheney; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 (today), at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Lavern Reed officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Boydsville with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Warren Matheney, Jeff Matheney, Keith Matheney, Mike Matheney, Windell Matheney, Tim Matheney, Eddie Wallace and Kevin Jones.
