Ruth G. Jones Collier

Ruth G. Jones Collier, 82, of Piggott died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003.

She was born July 20, 1921, to Anderson and Ethel Williams Jones, then of Patterson, Ark., in Clay County.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Collier on Jan. 30, 1942. To this union one son was born.

She grew up at Greenway and graduated from the Greenway High School. Mrs. Collier attended Harding College in Searcy, Ark. She then began teaching at Bennett, then Walnut Grove, Greenway and Pleasant Valley. She and her husband operated a business in Newport for a number of years, where she was active as the bookkeeper. Mrs. Colier was a member of the Thornton Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anderson and Ethel Jones; and one brother, Earl Jones.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Collier of Piggott; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Barbara Collier of Greenway; two grandsons, Brian Collier of Greenway and Keith Collier of Piggott; one brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Lona Jones of Piggott; one sister, Beth Morgan of Nimmons; one sister-in-law, Jean Collier Martin of Gurnee, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Jerry Morgan, Raymond Davis and Richard Akins officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector. Pallbearers were J.C. McMinn, Mike Hill, Mike Morgan, Neil Morgan, Gary Nichols and Larry Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Hardin Hill, Ed Wells, Charles Hollis, Jerry Grider, Chuck Schulte, J.L. May, Bob Griffith, Pat McCarron and Dr. Greg Mallard.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
