To the Editor: The Cotton insert in last week's paper brought back some fond memories of cotton pickin in Clay County. As a child growing up in the 60's, I only picked cotton for a few years, but the sight of that old cotton scale hanging from the rear of the cotton wagon! It took me back to the smell of open cotton...
Resident happy to see eyesore go, calls for more

To The Editor, I noticed that somebody has bought and torn down the old motel here in Rector. This is a great improvement for the town by having such an eye-sore removed from everyday sight, but my question is -- are the other residents not concerned about some of the other eye-sores located on such a heavy traveled road such as Highway 49 just sitting there?...

To the Editor: An amazing group of young people in our town need some recognition. Several of our teenagers worked in the Community Center kitchen on Labor Day helping to prepare, serve and clean up after the noon meal, which this year drew a record crowd...

To the Editor: Since moving back to Rector a month ago, it has been brought to my attention that several folks have asked the question, "Why in the world did she want to move back to Rector?" I wanted to answer that question since so many inquiring minds want to know! The first question that pops into my mind is, "If Rector is good enough for their home, why isn't it good enough for me?" When folks have lived in an area for a long time, sometimes they lose perspective on what makes their town a great place to live in, and perhaps those folks asking the "why" question have forgotten the very things that make Rector a wonderful community.. ...

Rector has been my home since 1972 and I have seen a lot of changes in the past 36 years. I was very disappointed to hear what happened at the Rector City Council meeting concerning annexation while we were out of town. ...
