Topping off an evening of fun at Rector High School's annual Oktoberfest celebration Monday night, parents joined the students in the popular Chicken Dance. Many were somewhat breathless at the end of the song, which accelerates as it progresses, requiring faster and faster movements. (Democrat photo/Nancy Kemp)

Colorful costumes and decorations added to the festive atmosphere for Rector High School's final Oktoberfest celebration held Monday night at the Community Center. German students (from left) Daniel Blackshare, Kristie Hardin and Cole Thomas were among a large group of teens who entertained parents and friends with the Alphabet Song, a swing dance and the lively Chicken Dance. The event also included a fashion show, with German descriptions of the wide-ranging outfits, including some traditional attire and some rather unusual fashions. Longtime German teacher Rebecca Simmons is retiring at the end of this school year. (Democrat photo/Nancy Kemp)
