Everyone is looking forward to the big festivities this weekend. From the rodeo and parade to the cotton candy and carnival rides, anticipation is building! We asked several people what they love most about Rector's Labor Day Picnic. Here is what they said:
"I love the parade the most! It's so neat seeing the children's eyes light up as the candy flies through the air!
"My kids love it!"
Crystal Carter, Liberty Bank
"Visiting with folks I haven't seen for a while is the best part for me. Getting together with friends and family. Oh! And I love the hambugers, too! They're the best ever!"
Kelly Waldron, Liberty Bank
"The thing I like best about Labor Day is seeing so many family and friends. Of course, since I've always lived here, over the years I have seen most everyone. But it is fun watching and listening to those who have not seen each other in so many years, some since graduation. I also enjoy getting to know those who I have heard about all my life, but never had the priviledge of meeting. For example, I met Joe (Perry) Pruett in 2006. "
Joe Pruett, Glen Sain Motors
"I love the memories that the picnic brings to mind; childhood memories of families getting together and all the kids being so excited. I remember planning with friends which rides we wanted to go on and running to find Mom and Dad to get more money!
"But mostly, I like seeing the people of Rector work together so well to support Woodland Heights cemetery. This town does a wonderful job for a noble cause, and we have one of the most beautiful cemeteries around."
Cheri Boyd, Irby Funeral Home
My grandmother used to live in Rector on Ballard street, right down from Glen Sain, so we used to walk down there and watch the parade and then run to the park to start the fun. I have family that used to come especially for the picnic. My family is big with the rodeo, and the bbq. My mom used to like to play bingo all day. After it was all over, my grandma used to help clean the park the next day. Those are the memories I have of Labor Day at Rector.
