On Overcoming

Oh, deep in my heart

I do believe

We shall overcome some day

-- chorus of "We Shall Overcome" by Charles Lindley

I had never heard "We Shall Overcome" before its refrains became a backdrop for the live television broadcasts of the sit-in demonstrations and marches that protested racial segregation in Alabama and Mississippi in the early 1960's. This powerful song, derived from the 19th-century Negro spiritual, "No More Auction Block for Me," had a galvanic effect on the brave protesters arrested as they defied ugly slurs from angry white mobs, and fire hoses, truncheons, savage police dogs and jail to make their point. Its haunting melody and simple lyric, sung by blacks and whites and Christians and Jews united in determination to bring about long-overdue change also reached a worldwide audience.

For this white boy who grew up on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line, the segregated South was an ugly fact of life. Even though the small towns in Missouri and Arkansas where I spent my youth had few blacks and even fewer so-called "separate but equal" public facilities, there were plenty of none-too-subtle reminders to reinforce the cultural message. The faded lettering on a crude sign posted on the county line not far from my home--with the warning "Nigger don't let the sun set on you here"--was still visible in the mid-1980s. And the "Colored Only" signs marking the water fountains of the old railway station that now houses the William J. Clinton School for Public Service in Little Rock have been preserved as rude reminders of a not-too-distant past.

The scars of the so-called racial civil rights era--which included for Arkansans the everlasting shame over the events surrounding the attempted integration of Little Rock Central High School--have nearly faded. The grandchildren of those displaced students of 1957 now work and study and play and live side by side with persons of all races and wonder what the fuss was about. New issues now evoke equally passionate and divisive political responses to questions about rights for women and the handicapped and foster children and non-Christians and gays and the unborn. We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. American society is an imperfect work in progress, but in spite of all our shortcomings and unfulfilled intentions, a lot of progress has been made in the past fifty years toward racial harmony and acceptance of others who are different from ourselves.

In a few days, citizens of the United States will celebrate the inauguration of our forty-fourth President. He is a brilliant politician and apparently a person of high intellect and capacity. While he is still an unknown in myriad ways, he has, by dint of his extraordinary communication skills and charisma, opened a new era of hope and optimistic expectation. It is an inescapable fact that he is of mixed racial heritage. He ran a campaign that had attempted to finesse race as an issue, but he ultimately addressed it directly to his benefit. He even managed to carry some important Southern states like Virginia, North Carolina and Florida, where race has been a negative factor in the past. Regrettably, Arkansas was not among them.

Now the Era of Obama begins. Obama comes from the generation that followed those who led the sit-ins and protest marches in Birmingham and Selma and Jackson. His generation--many who were never forced off the sidewalk to let a white woman pass, or who never had to ride in the back of a bus or attend separate but very unequal schools--is the first to benefit from the sacrifices of those who fought so hard for civil rights for all. It is fitting that Obama's inauguration coincides with the celebration of the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr., whose life was sacrificed to advance such a day. In his familiar "I Have a Dream" speech delivered at the feet of the Lincoln Memorial on that hot August day in 1963, Dr. King's words rang out:

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."…I have a dream today!…one day…little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today!

As one white person who shared Dr. King's long-awaited dream of the day this country's politics would move beyond race as a barrier to elective office, it is a good feeling to be still alive 45 years later to witness this remarkable passage. Affirmative action may have its drawbacks, but it is hard to imagine that Mr. Obama would have made it so far had those laws and policies not been in place. Obama's race is not a credential, but his election effectively removes that joker from the deck. One may even argue that for the uncertain times in which he assumes office, his humble roots and racial heritage may equip him for the job in ways most of us may never comprehend.

And now we have arrived at this amazing place in history, to a milestone along the road to the overcoming of centuries of repression and cultural prejudice, to witness the ascension of the son of a black African man and a white woman from Kansas, born but two years before Dr. King told of his dream, to the presidency of the United States. Indeed, all things are possible, and this country's electorate has affirmed it.

What a challenge this man has before him. Young and untested but strong and seemingly wise beyond his years, he will have to step adroitly in this new role, as he faces untold difficulties, learning from his own mistakes as he addresses remedies for those of his predecessors, as he forges his own path. He is no messiah, but there are high hopes for his success. I have a hunch he will be up to the job.

Charlie, thank you for your thoughts and your words. You poke at us and make us think. I too am so excited I can hardly sit still waiting for Tuesday. Cheers to us all. There is so much to look forward to.

Charlie,

And yet, all this hoopla which surrounds Obama is based on "expectations." If he can live up to half of it he will be the greatest man to have ever walked the earth. Barring Jesus Christ of course to some of us. I hope he succeeds in righteousness and justice as a leader and doesn't turn us into Europe.

Yes, Mr. Hargrave, it is about expectation! I hope that you can put away your fears and enjoy this time with us. God bless you.

Christa,

Thanks! I do hope that expectations are not too high and I pray for Obama's success in righteousness and justice for America's sake because Romans 13 tells me to pray for and honor our leaders in light of the fact that God delegated such authority to them. I therefore see it as a great sin against God to unduly characterize a leader with disdain, though I believe we have the right to oppose their policies but not their person. We are not to treat any of the human race in such a fashion as we've seen in recent years against our leader. There has been much on these blogs that is akin to character assassination with little substance concerning policies. It will not be a good next 4 years if Republicans, the media and Hollywood blast him as Democrats, the media and Hollywood continually engaged in against President Bush. I hope Republicans will do the right thing and not take the course of many Democrats. The rhetoric about Bush got out of hand even after Obama won though Bush had kept Americans safe in the country after 9-11, which, by the way, very few in this country thought possible on 9-12-2001.

Sour grapes and much vitriol for many Democrats but I see no need for such behavior due to the fact that I actually trust in Christ above any president, seeing they He is, in fact, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He raises up Kings and brings them down, He raises up Nations and brings them down.

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34) would be a good verse to ponder in this country in the coming days.

By the way, I always enjoy your column in the paper and thanks for the advice. I'll try hard to enjoy the day due to the fact that God ordained it.

Quotes concerning Dr. King:

"On Jan. 31, 1977 Coretta Scott King obtained a federal court order sealing for 50 years 845 pages of FBI records about her husband, "because its release would destroy his reputation!" Still a cowardly, spineless Congress voted to make King's birthday a national holiday. This is should be an outrage to all Christians. The King Holiday act must be repealed!"

"It was not some "right-winger" who had King's office and hotel rooms bugged. This order was signed by then U.S. Attorney General Bobby Kennedy on Oct. 10, 1963. Evidence proved that King was under the direct orders of Soviet spies and financed by the Communist Party. The Kennedy tapings continued for 5 years and also developed shocking revelations regarding King's sexual practices."

"His [Martin Luther King Jr.'s] closest advisor Stanley Levison was a Communist, as was his assistant Jack O'Dell. Robert and later John F. Kennedy repeatedly warned him to stop associating himself with such subversives, but he never did. He frequently spoke before Communist front groups such as the National Lawyers Guild and Lawyers for Democratic Action. King even attended seminars at The Highlander Folk School, another Communist front, which taught Communist tactics, which he later employed."

To All Concerned:

If today sets the tone of the reigning party for the next 4 year we're in for a long 4 years.

READ TODAY'S NEWS: Democrats against Republicans

The crowd packed on the west side of the Capitol grounds serenaded President Bush in mocking fashion when he took to the inaugural stage alongside Vice President Dick Cheney.

"Nah nah nah nah, hey hey, good-bye," a section of the crowd chanted.

The crowd packed immediately below the podium received Bush in stony silence when he took his seat on the stage surrounding the podium where Barack Obama was scheduled to take the oath office to become the 44th president of the United States.

The jeers are among the final public feedback Bush will receive as president.

First Lady Laura Bush and Lynne Cheney received light applause when they were announced to the crowd.

ALSO: Democrat against Republican

Clinton and Cornyn wrangle in Rotunda

Hillary Clinton and John Cornyn, who's delaying her floor confirmation vote, have been having a fairly heated (that is to say, intense but cordial) discussion just out of earshot under the Washington statue in the rotunda. Lots of hand gestures, back and forth and her squeezing his forearm.

Two feet away Chelsea Clinton is joking with John McCain and his wife, Cindy.

UPDATE: A Cornyn spokesman took a bit of umbrage, e-mailing us to say: "Carl Cameron reported on Fox a little while ago that while he couldn't hear their conversation, it appeared to be warm and cordial."

We don't disagree with the "cordial," but "warm" is debatable.

ALSO: Black vs. White

Benediction at Obama 's inauguration, Rev. Joseph Lowery: 'Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right.

INTERESTING BEGINNING OF HEALING THE LAND!!! IT IS ONLY BEGINNING.

MORE OF THE SAME:

News from yesterday: Another reminder . . .

ABC News' David Wright reports: Today may be a day when the nation briefly sets aside partisan enmity for the peaceful transition of power, but personal enmity? That's another matter.

One small example: as the ex-Presidents gathered in the crypt of the Capitol preparing to head out to the platform, a chilly day got a bit chillier as the Carters and the Clintons were forced to occupy the same cramped space.

Former Democratic President Jimmy Carter appeared to greet former Republican President George H.W. Bush and his wife warmly, kissing Barbara Bush on the cheek. But as Carter passed fellow Democrats Bill and Hillary Clinton, the two men did not appear to acknowledge each others presence at all.

BUT ONE BRIGHT SPOT:

In Midland, Texas Bush made a homecoming speech. This is what he said of the day:

Wishing success to Barack Obama hours after handing him over reins of power, former US President George W Bush has said "a good man" has taken oath of office.

"Today was a great day for America, and a good man took the oath of office," Bush said on Tuesday after reaching his home in Midland Texas from Washington.

"We all offer our prayers for his success," he said.

I AM PROUD THAT BUSH TOOK THE HIGH ROAD ON A GREAT DAY, INSTEAD OF THE HATE AND VITRIOL TOWARD A SITTING PRESIDENT THAT HAS FLOWED BEFORE AND SINCE THE ELECTION OF OBAMA FROM DEMOCRATS! WILL IT EVER CHANGE?

I'm sadly anticipating more of the same from Charlie very soon on the CCD blog.

Hitler Becomes Dictator

After the elections of March 5, 1933, the Nazis began a systematic takeover of the state governments throughout Germany, ending a centuries old tradition of local political independence. Armed SA and SS thugs barged into local government offices using the state of emergency decree as a pretext to throw out legitimate office holders and replace them with Nazi Reich commissioners.

Political enemies were arrested by the thousands and put in hastily constructed holding pens. Old army barracks and abandoned factories were used as prisons. Once inside, prisoners were subjected to military style drills and harsh discipline. They were often beaten and sometimes even tortured to death. This was the very beginning of the Nazi concentration camp system.

At this time, these early concentration camps were loosely organized under the control of the SA and the rival SS. Many were little more than barbed wire stockades know as 'wild' concentration camps, set up by local Gauleiters and SA leaders.

For Adolf Hitler, the goal of a legally established dictatorship was now within reach. On March 15, 1933, a cabinet meeting was held during which Hitler and Göring discussed how to obstruct what was left of the democratic process to get an Enabling Act passed by the Reichstag. This law would hand over the constitutional functions of the Reichstag to Hitler, including the power to make laws, control the budget and approve treaties with foreign governments.

The emergency decree signed by Hindenburg on February 28, after the Reichstag fire, made it easy for them to interfere with non-Nazi elected representatives of the people by simply arresting them.

As Hitler plotted to bring democracy to an end in Germany, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels put together a brilliant public relations display at the official opening of the newly elected Reichstag.

On March 21, in the Garrison Church at Potsdam, the burial place of Frederick the Great, an elaborate ceremony took place designed to ease public concern over Hitler and his gangster-like new regime.

It was attended by President Hindenburg, foreign diplomats, the General Staff and all the old guard going back to the days of the Kaiser. Dressed in their handsome uniforms sprinkled with medals, they watched a most reverent Adolf Hitler give a speech paying respect to Hindenburg and celebrating the union of old Prussian military traditions and the new Nazi Reich. As a symbol of this, the old Imperial flags would soon add swastikas.

Finishing his speech, Hitler walked over to Hindenburg and respectfully bowed before him while taking hold of the old man's hand. The scene was recorded on film and by press photographers from around the world. This was precisely the impression Hitler and Goebbels wanted to give to the world, all the while plotting to toss aside Hindenburg and the elected Reichstag.

Later that same day, Hindenburg signed two decrees put before him by Hitler. The first offered full pardons to all Nazis currently in prison. The prison doors sprang open and out came an assortment of Nazi thugs and murderers.

The second decree signed by the befuddled old man allowed for the arrest of anyone suspected of maliciously criticizing the government and the Nazi party.

A third decree signed only by Hitler and Papen allowed for the establishment of special courts to try political offenders. These courts were conducted in the military style of a court-martial without a jury and usually with no counsel for the defense.

On March 23, the newly elected Reichstag met in the Kroll Opera House in Berlin to consider passing Hitler's Enabling Act. It was officially called the "Law for Removing the Distress of the People and the Reich." If passed, it would in effect vote democracy out of existence in Germany and establish the legal dictatorship of Adolf Hitler.

Brown-shirted Nazi storm troopers swarmed over the fancy old building in a show of force and as a visible threat. They stood outside, in the hallways and even lined the aisles inside, glaring ominously at anyone who might oppose Hitler's will.

Before the vote, Hitler made a speech in which he pledged to use restraint.

"The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures...The number of cases in which an internal necessity exists for having recourse to such a law is in itself a limited one," Hitler told the Reichstag.

He also promised an end to unemployment and pledged to promote peace with France, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. But in order to do all this, Hitler said, he first needed the Enabling Act. A two-thirds majority was needed, since the law would actually alter the constitution. Hitler needed 31 non-Nazi votes to pass it. He got those votes from the Catholic Center Party after making a false promise to restore some basic rights already taken away by decree.

Meanwhile, Nazi storm troopers chanted outside: "Full powers - or else! We want the bill - or fire and murder!!"

But one man arose amid the overwhelming might. Otto Wells, leader of the Social Democrats stood up and spoke quietly to Hitler.

"We German Social Democrats pledge ourselves solemnly in this historic hour to the principles of humanity and justice, of freedom and socialism. No enabling act can give you power to destroy ideas which are eternal and indestructible."

Hitler was enraged and jumped up to respond.

"You are no longer needed! - The star of Germany will rise and yours will sink! Your death knell has sounded!"

The vote was taken - 441 for, and only 84, the Social Democrats, against. The Nazis leapt to their feet clapping, stamping and shouting, then broke into the Nazi anthem, the Hörst Wessel song.

Democracy was ended. They had brought down the German Democratic Republic legally. From this day onward, the Reichstag would be just a sounding board, a cheering section for Hitler's pronouncements.

Interestingly, the Nazi party was now flooded with applications for membership. These latecomers were cynically labeled by old time Nazis as 'March Violets.' In May, the Nazi Party froze membership. Many of those kept out applied to the SA and the SS which were still accepting. However, in early 1934, Heinrich Himmler would throw out 50,000 of those 'March Violets' from the SS.

The Nazi Gleichschaltung now began, a massive coordination of all aspects of life under the swastika and the absolute leadership of Adolf Hitler.

Under Hitler, the State, not the individual, was supreme.

From the moment of birth one existed to serve the State and obey the dictates of the Führer. Those who disagreed were disposed of.

Many agreed. Bureaucrats, industrialists, even intellectual and literary figures, including Gerhart Hauptmann, world renowned dramatist, were coming out in open support of Hitler.

Many disagreed and left the country. A flood of the finest minds, including over two thousand writers, scientists, and people in the arts poured out of Germany and enriched other lands, mostly the United States. Among them - writer Thomas Mann, director Fritz Lang, actress Marlene Dietrich, architect Walter Gropius, musicians Otto Klemperer, Kurt Weill, Richard Tauber, psychologist Sigmund Freud, and Albert Einstein, who was visiting California when Hitler came to power and never returned to Germany.

In Germany, there were now constant Nazi rallies, parades, marches and meetings amid the relentless propaganda of Goebbels and the omnipresent swastika. For those who remained there was an odd mixture of fear and optimism in the air.

Now, for the first time as dictator, Adolf Hitler turned his attention to the driving force which had propelled him into politics in the first place, his hatred of the Jews. It began with a simple boycott on April 1, 1933, and would end years later in the greatest tragedy in all of human history.

SandraR

History forgotten translates into history repeating itself. Good read! Now, if we could only get our public schools to teach real history to our kids.

Good narrative, Sandra. Can't see how it relates to the current situation however. Seems that all your arguments against President Obama apply more aptly to the previous president.

But what do I know? It even sounds to me like you and Razorback are spewing much more "vitriol" and negativism than anyone else.

-- Posted by finallyfine on Fri, Jan 23, 2009, at 12:06 AM

Dear finallyfine,

Great argument I suppose for your ilk, but a brief translation may serve to inform the unlearned as to your point. Translation - Uniformity is in vogue, dissent (against policies not people) is apparently out of style. Now that does sound a little reminiscent of Germany's past - per SandraR's post.

Your succinct argument is very interesting to say the least and I think you have the right to anonymously state it, though it might seem vitriolic and negative to some people. Methinks that the sage advice, "Physician, heal thyself" is always good advice for all of us!

Kissinger: Obama primed to create 'New World Order'

The phrase "New World Order" causes alarm for many Americans, particularly those concerned about an international governing body trumping U.S. sovereignty or those that interpret biblical prophecy to foretell the establishment of a one-world government as key to the rise of the Antichrist. Conspiracy theorists, too, have latched on to the phrase, concerned that powerful financial or government figures are secretly plotting to rule the world.

Kissinger's ties to government and international powers -- as well as his use of the phrase -- have made him suspect in the eyes of many who are wary of what "new world order" might actually mean.

"There is a need for a new world order," Kissinger told PBS interviewer Charlie Rose last year, "I think that at the end of this administration, with all its turmoil, and at the beginning of the next, we might actually witness the creation of a new order -- because people looking in the abyss, even in the Islamic world, have to conclude that at some point, ordered expectations must return under a different system."

As WND reported, Kissinger was also part of last year's super-secret Bilderberg Group, an organization of powerful international elites, including government, business, academic and journalistic representatives, that has convened annually since 1954.

According to sources that have penetrated the high-security meetings, the Bilderberg meetings emphasize a globalist agenda and promote the idea that the notion of national sovereignty is antiquated and regressive.

The above link did not work, so I have posted the entire article.

Conflicts across the globe and an international respect for Barack Obama have created the perfect setting for establishment of "a New World Order," according to Henry Kissinger, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and former secretary of state under President Nixon.

Kissinger has long been an integral figure in U.S. foreign policy, holding positions in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations. Author of over a dozen books on foreign policy, Kissinger was also named by President Bush as the chairman of the Sept. 11 investigatory commission.

Kissinger made the remark in an interview with CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" hosts Mark Haines and Erin Burnett at the New York Stock Exchange, after Burnett asked him what international conflict would define the Obama administration's foreign policy.

Read "Hope of the Wicked," where author Ted Flynn reveals the greatest deception in modern history -- corporations, foundations and governments converging to bring about a New World Order.

"The president-elect is coming into office at a moment when there is upheaval in many parts of the world simultaneously," Kissinger responded. "You have India, Pakistan; you have the jihadist movement. So he can't really say there is one problem, that it's the most important one. But he can give new impetus to American foreign policy partly because the reception of him is so extraordinary around the world. His task will be to develop an overall strategy for America in this period when, really, a new world order can be created. It's a great opportunity, it isn't just a crisis."

The phrase 'new world order' traces back at least as far as 1940, when author H.G. Wells used it as the title of a book about a socialist, unified, one-world government. The phrase has also been linked to American presidents, including Woodrow Wilson, whose work on establishing the League of Nations pioneered the concept of international government bodies, and to the first President Bush, who used it in a 1989 speech.

"A new partnership of nations has begun, and we stand today at a unique and extraordinary moment," said Bush before a joint session of Congress. "Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective -- a new world order -- can emerge: A new era … in which the nations of the world, east and west, north and south, can prosper and live in harmony."

CNBC's Haines concluded the Kissinger interview by asking, "Are you confident about the people President-elect Obama has chosen to surround him?"

Kissinger replied, "He has appointed an extraordinarily able group of people in both the international and financial fields."

Politically Incorrect,

You're killing us with the facts as they are. I thought this blog was just about our feelings. Lets see, facts, feelings, facts, feelings, facts, feelings, maybe your right, what is important is not how we feel but how we think according to the facts. What a novel thought!

Thank you for information that actually clues us in about what may happen in the soon coming days. One World order? No more Sovereignty for America? One World currency? Perhaps one world leader to promise us Shangri-La?

This seems to be what the whole world is looking for, but it ain't gonna (Sarah Palin Slang) be what the masses believe it will be. Anybody ever heard of Armageddon? Don't get mad at me for saying it, the Bible said it first, I'm just repeating what I've seen and heard.

I must say, pointing to the comments of a Nixon cabinet official and lifelong conservative who endorsed John McCain for President as evidence of President Obama's true agenda is the height of setting up straw men. Bravo.

I am thankful that some of you seem to have come out of 2008 better than you entered 2001. Millions more of your fellow Americans did not, nor did about $5.6 Trillion in projected budget surplus (most of that ended up foreign-held instead).

Those were some facts. Here are some feelings: I take exception to telling anyone who disagrees with you that they are sheep. I take exception to using fear to try to make a political point. I especially take exception to Nazi-mongering. It's indefensible and demeaning to intelligence and to civil discourse everywhere.

I won't begin to question the motives for such feelings, but I hope that each of you are comfortable with them.

-- Posted by CYE on Sun, Jan 25, 2009, at 6:11 PM

CYE,

You have expressed your opinion with true candor and excellence of thought. Though clearly succinct your arguments are also thorough and somewhat enticing. I applaud your lucid manner and your keen insight. However, I disagree with your conclusions. I must also add that it is always a mixed bag to speak to anonymity, for it has been said, that anonymous opinions are dangerous due the fact that they possess no restraint. When a man attaches his John Hancock he is consequently accountable to all, when he does not, he is only accountable to himself. But I'll proceed with fear and trembling lest you pounce upon mine and others motives again without validation.

Concerning the Hitler article, which you apparently were greatly offended at, I did not see any commentary as to its intention by the one making the post. So maybe you can tell me what she meant by it. I could assume some things and you apparently did, but my response had simply to do with the fact that our young people need to be taught about the reality of these past atrocities lest they repeat them in the future. I have no knowledge about Obama that would suggest that he would engage in such shenanigans as Adolf Hitler, nor did I imply it to be so in my post if you will more carefully check its contents.

You said in your post that you "won't begin to question the motives for such feelings." Well, by the tenor of your post you did in fact question motives when you referred to your "feelings." You also said, "Its indefensible and demeaning to intelligence and to civil discourse everywhere." That seems to be a feeling that you translated into fact seeing that you assumed a lot about SandraR's post. Maybe you can take it up with her to find her real meaning but assumptions are awfully dangerous to say the least, especially as it relates to "Nazi mongering." Of course your divining rod may be more accurate than mine to reach such a convinced conclusion about one's intent though unstated.

Furthermore, I would ask you what you meant by "Nazi mongering?" Perhaps this does not apply to you but it is an ever-increasing common means used today in the public forum whereby liberals often lead others to ignore history by simply applying its use to fear mongering instead of merely seeking to educate a person about "unrevised" history. And if you had been paying attention, you would have known that over the past 8 years, Hollywood, the Media, the View, and Democrats alike have in fact referred to George Bush and his policies as a form of Nazism. I suppose that's kosher for Bush but bad karma for Obama. Maybe Rosie O'Donnell could enlighten us much more about all of this, that is if she were available, but I think she's presently MIA.

The fact is, unless your divining rod is infallible, nothing that was said by the alleged "indefensible and demeaning" person remotely resembles your assessment of her intentions, unless she gets on the blog and states it to be so.

Is it not right for us to be reminded of Hitler's atrocities in order to instill the necessity of not repeating such folly in a present or future generation? Do you think it impossible to take place in this country? The German people didn't think it was possible until people were being drug out in the streets and shot and later burned in ovens. I do question your motives about this, seeing you stated them, but apparently you're comfortable with them.

I must also remind you that this week, Obama did use the high office of President to stoop so low in actually referring to a talk-show celebrity, Russ Limbaugh. Telling the Republicans not to listen to him if they wanted to be listened to. Isn't that a form of Nazism? Isn't the so-called "fairness doctrine" that is coming down the pike a form of muzzling the free press and the exercise of dissent among opposing views? All he did was elevate Limbaugh's voice in the minds of millions of Americans, and it was extremely foolish to say the least for the sitting President to engage in such nonsense. But of course even the New York Times accused him a few days ago of allowing ABC to exclusively witness the second swearing in ceremony due to the fact that ABC paid the bill for one of the inaugural balls. A number of well-known liberal rags referred to it in such terms as calling it play for pay. And didn't the media (not right wing but left) accuse Obama of not playing fair this past week and not being forthright with them about the issues. Sounds like a bad start when the promise was for more openness. Not to mention the Gitmo mess, while signing an executive order to release the terrorists into who knows where since the nations they came from won't take them back. I guess we could set up another prison yard in Ft. Smith. The neighbors would love that.

Now let me address the forthcoming mantra alluded to in your post that we Americans will have to put up with for the next 4 -8 years. It's Bush's fault. Anyone who reads at all knows that this problem started almost 20 years ago, with some dangerous deregulations as well as some tragic regulations in financial institutions that created a lack of restraint in those who resided over those institutions. Greed is the real culprit and to lie that at the feet of one man is to ignore the only way out. If you think Obama can turn this around without changing what Republicans, Democrats and the greed of Americans caused you're dead wrong. And furthermore, don't forget that the Democrats handling of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in creating policies that forced lending to people who could not afford a home also encroached the practices of the banking world in general. The fertile ground for destruction was already in place when Bush took office and we're just now reaping about 2 decades of disastrous policies. When we say everybody deserves this or that the trouble starts and there is no end in sight. So to simply put this on one president is partisan and uniformed about the facts. 9-11 by the way happened due in part to Clinton's inability to pull the trigger so to speak on Osama Bin Laden even though he had previously tried to bring the WTC down during his presidency. That brings us back to history repeating itself if we refuse to learn from it.

Let me address one more item that is of most importance to me before I RIP. When you said, "I am thankful that some of you seem to have come out of 2008 better than you entered in 2001," I was not sure how you meant that. But, lets say you meant it in a nice way. The question is, how do you know how any of us has come out of 2008, seeing that you can't possibly know through observation. It seems that you assume a lot in your foregone conclusions. Furthermore, you said, "Millions more of your fellow Americans did not." This tells me that you believe, what so many believe today in America because it's been crammed down their throats, that government, and specifically a President is the primary cause of our happiness or unhappiness. This, of course is blatantly false. God alone is our sustainer who meets our needs, our hurts and our deepest heartaches. I for one find this present philosophy to be patently false and it continues to corrupt our young minds in the country that think that a mere man is going to bring them their true happiness. This has not been the tradition of this country in the past nor has it proven over the past 75 years to produce a better citizenry. As long as we keep looking for any President from any party to be our primary sustenance, we are doomed to failure. The belief in God Almighty in Christ has been our guard in the past but now He has been almost completely discarded from our post-modern discourse. If you're asking me if I'm better off, my answer is yes, simply because I'm a few years closer to my heavenly home that awaits me.

Presidents and governments are delegated authorities that God has ordained (Rom 13) and when they cross the line of control over the people other than that of punishing evil-doers, protecting their countrymen, and guarding the liberties of individuals, rich and poor, black and white, as well as caring for those who have real needs that they cannot meet while looking first and foremost to the One who gave them such authority as past presidents like Washington, Adams, and Lincoln did, they are out from under God's divine favor, which is exactly where America is today. Look back, and tell me how government intervention in any aspect of present governance outside of the principles I just mentioned in Rom 13 makes this country better than it was before such interference.

If this country can't get out of the pseudo-worship of mere men then we will continue to go down into the abyss of confusion and chaos. Please write me back when what I've said proves to be untrue. This country was built by the grace of God through the strong backbones of working men and women who often struggled with great burdens and little to eat for the great blessing of true liberty and freedom to worship God and live out their short lives in praise to His great glory. Sad, but that is no longer the case for many. Thusly, we find ourselves in a quagmire we cannot get out of no matter how much money we print over the next few months.

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people! Oh that we would believe that again in America.

I'm sleepy, but the One World Government is coming so I'll have to simply reserve that for another day. And it didn't start with Obama but it will continue with him, mark my words.

To All Concerned:

Though it was reported yesterday on MYWAY.com

By PAUL SCHEMM

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - President Barack Obama on Tuesday chose an Arabic satellite TV network for his first formal television interview as president, delivering a message to the Muslim world that "Americans are not your enemy."

The interview underscored Obama's commitment to repair relations with the Muslim world that have suffered under the previous administration.

THAT IS TRUE, AMERICA IS NOT THEIR ENEMY. THEY ARE OUR ENEMY AND OBAMA SENT A SIGNAL YESTERDAY DECLARING THAT FACT - this is very presidential - Read the following:

GIVE OBAMA KUDO'S ON THIS ONE: President Obama maybe more like Bush than expected: The mantra of the Left to stop the war isn't getting through to the new President. I must give kudo's to Obama on this, since he apparently is acting on something now that he didn't know before. Intelligent's reports perhaps from operatives in the field. Of course the left doesn't like it. Interesting irony! READ THE FOLLOWING:

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said Sunday that there will be an "uptick" in American casualties in Afghanistan as the U.S. military increases its presence in that country, which he characterized as "a real mess."

The vice president's prediction prompted outrage from liberal antiwar groups who characterized it as "cavalier," although a leading scholar at a Washington neoconservative think tank called the Biden remarks an overdue recognition of reality.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai foreshadowed other difficulties Sunday with any "surge" of U.S. forces into his country, condemning a U.S. operation he said killed 16 Afghan civilians and demanding greater Afghan control of U.S. military operations.

Associated press Rescuers attend to a wounded U.S. soldier after a blast in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Saturday. Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said Sunday that the Obama administration "inherited a real mess" in Afghanistan" and warned that "we're going to be engaging the enemy more now."

Mr. Biden, in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation" conducted from his home in Wilmington, Del., said the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated, blaming a "failure to provide sufficient resources - economic, political and military - as well as failure to get a coherent policy among our allies - economically and politically and in terms of the military resources."

He said corruption is "rife" because the Taliban is in "effective control of significant parts of the country they were not before" and because of the opium and heroin drug trade.

"The bottom line here is, we've inherited a real mess. We're about to go in and try to essentially reclaim territory that's been effectively lost," Mr. Biden said. "There are going to be some additional military forces. There are going to be additional efforts to train their police and to train their Afghan army. And all of that means we're going to be engaging the enemy more now."

President Obama has said he will send more troops to Afghanistan as he withdraws combat soldiers from the war in Iraq, insisting it is the real front to the "war on terror."

CBS host Bob Schieffer asked Mr. Biden whether his comments mean more American casualties should be expected.

"I hate to say it, but yes, I think there will be. There will be an uptick. Because as the commander in Afghanistan said, he said, 'Joe, we will get this done, but we're going to be engaging the enemy much more,'" the vice president said.
