Merry Christmas Everyone

Posted Monday, December 21, 2009, at 11:18 PM

Christmas is definitely upon us now. I have never seen so many children trying to convince Santa that they have been good all year. Teenagers are just as busy trying to convince mom and dad they will be good next year. And us grownups, we are just glad to celebrate Christmas. It's a time to let the love show. Open our hearts and let them be filled. Oh I do so love this time of year!

It is also a time to bundle up. Today is beautiful and sunny and a toasty 40 something degrees. Tomorrow however, promises something a little different. We could get wet. As always I am with the little kids, looking for snow on Christmas. But I am not looking for the white out conditions the east coast is looking at right now. Just at little. You know moderation in all things, for goodness sake.

Tuesday afternoon Jerry Chillcut and Candy Hill entertained members of the Bert Sigsby Senior Wellness Center with a presentation of Christmas carols and songs in the First Methodist Church. I always love to hear Jerry play and it was my first time to listen to Candy's lovely voice. The program was beautiful. It really put me, and I hope everyone else, in the right mood for the Christmas season. "We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas ....."

Watch out! Glenna Bookout is on the loose again. Finally she is recovered enough from her broken hip that she can drive again. The only problem now is that her car is in the shop. How unfair is that. Glad to see you out, Glenna.

I saw Cathy Louder last night. She even sat down for half an hour or so. I swear she must be the busiest lady in the universe. Full time teacher, school bus driver, cook and housekeeper, of course and wife, mother, doting grandmother, she also has a candy business, you know. Business really picks up around Christmas and she has spent every spare minute cooking candy, wrapping candy and mailing candy. Of course she gets help from her mom, Jessie and Jessie recruits help too. She was delighted to have Barbara Wheatley over lending a hand this week. I hear she is a really good candy wrapper. Yes it is really good candy too. Try it: www.catscandy.com .

Speaking of candy, I have mentioned my neighbor, Candy Hill a few times lately and this prompted a call to me from Pauline Dodd last week. Ms. Dodd was wondering if this was the Candy that is Chick Hill's daughter and I confirmed that indeed she is. Seems Ms. Dodd knew Candy's parents and she has a son who was born on the same night that Candy was. I had a wonderful conversation with Ms. Dodd. I hope to hear from her again. Thank you for calling.

Reno Smith is tickled pink to have her grandsons with her for a few days before Christmas. Zack and Blake Ervin and their other grandmother Debbie Ervin are all staying with Reno until Christmas Eve. How much fun can two little boys have with two grandmothers spoiling them at the same time? There have got to be some new games being invented there.

Time to go. Let me know what's happening with you. I know at least a couple of our military guys are going to be home for Christmas. Give me a call or email me to let me know what is happening. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. I want to know and share your news. Thank you so much for all your emails and phone calls. I love hearing from you.

Keep our military in your prayers. We need them and they need us.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!
