Loving Those Old Songs

Posted Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 1:20 AM

Well, I thought I was exaggerating last week when I said I thought it had been the longest dry spell we had had all year, but no. KAIT8 confirmed that very thing. In all of 2009 we have not gone more than two weeks without rain. I guess this dry spell lasted almost 3 weeks. It is, of course, raining today and I think the farmers are probably okay with this. They have really been working their fields this past two weeks. I am amazed at the progress they have made in that time. Now it really looks like it is supposed to in the Fall: cotton modules lining the road, fields neatly put to bed and dust in the air.

I hope you remembered to go see the "Ultimate Oldies" show on Friday. It was truly a great show. I had not been in the Collins Theatre and was impressed by its grandeur. We sat in the balcony and had a great view of the stage. I was there with Candy Hill, Lane Wozniak, Jessie Malin and Paula, the core of the Old Gal Gang. Ron and Nancy Kemp were there too and I hear that Russ and Sharon Gamblin were wandering around there somewhere, along with a whole host of other Rectorites.

We all loved the songs. They brought back a million memories of our school days (except for Ron who told me he was much too young to remember those days). Hmmm. Maybe we should question him a bit further on that subject. The show was really fast paced and the singing was great and so was the band. "The Leader of the Pack" was punctuated with a surprise to the other performers when the pack leader emerged on a motorcycle. The pack? I am still not sure what they were riding.

I can't believe they put on this performance with just one week of rehearsal. I really wanted dance in the aisle and I am afraid I did sing along just a bit. They will be back and I strongly suggest you do your best to go to the next show.

I feel it is my duty to inform everyone that there has been some stripping going on on 3rd Street. Outside no less! There were no poles involved but I can tell you that there were a couple of sawhorses. (We do not want for excitement here). Yep, Lane Wozniak has taken full advantage of our rainless days to strip the paint off a couple of her doors. Anyone want to guess at how many layers of paint were on those doors?

Candy Hill has really been spiffying up her place too, inside and out. Every time I looked out the kitchen window she has been painting something or planting something or having someone else plant something. It is looking very very nice.

Oh well, I suppose it's time for me to go. There is much going on this time of year so let me know what's happening with you so I can share. Give me a call or email me to let me know what is going on. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Thank you so much for all your emails and phone calls. I look forward to hearing from you.

Don't forget to say a prayer for soldiers everywhere.

Also remember to support our Operation Dad Bags Program.
