Looking Like Fall

Posted Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:24 AM

Looks like fall weather is really here. The cooler temperatures make me want to be outside more and the rain makes me want to stay inside. Guess I am sort of conflicted. Or, to look at it from a different angle, I have more choices. At any rate I am really enjoying the cool nights. I have had the windows open and so I feel the breeze inside or out.

I am often up late at night and one night last week I was working on a Sudoku puzzle at about 1:00 am when my dogs kept fussing at the door to the library where the cats were holed up. Usually I can call the dogs down and they settle pretty quickly. Not that night. I was getting pretty aggravated at what I thought was Misty's uncontrollable urge to irritate the cats as much as possible. Finally I grew weary of yelling and went to check on the cats myself.

My house is old and in order to turn on the light in the library I had to walk across the room in the dark and find the switch between the bookcases. When the light flicked on

I found myself just about eye to eye with a rather large raccoon outside the window. Yep. The screen was torn and I have reason to believe he or she had already been inside, probably checking out the cat food. Needless to say I put the window down and the next day repaired the screen. And of course I apologized to Misty who was only doing her job by trying to alert me to strangers on the premises. We really have to work on our communication skills.

Frankie Lyles was in town briefly on Monday. She came to see her old friend Bonnie Reynolds who is in the nursing home in Rector and her daughter Vicky. Then she visited for a little while with her late husband, Bill Lyles' sister. Nell Jenkins who is in a nursing home in Paragould. Sorry I missed seeing you, Frankie. Both of us were busy, busy, busy that day. Maybe next time.

Did you give blood at the blood drive on Monday? The FBLA and the Woman's Club sponsored it. I always think the one right before Halloween has a special significance. You know, vampires and all?

I met someone new in town last week. Have you met Paula Folkes? I met her at the post office and she seems very nice. We chatted for a few minutes. She has recently moved here from Florida. Her husband works with Steve Crancer and they live outside of town. Paula, give me a call. We want to know more about you.

I want to remind you of Joey Pruett and his Doo Wop band. I talked about them before. They will be playing next month at the Collins Theater in Paragould. November 13 and 14. Mark your calendars. They are really good.

Well, it is time for me to go. Give me a call or email me to let me know what is going on with you. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Thank you so much for all your emails and phone calls. I look forward to hearing from you.

Pray for soldiers everywhere.
