Rain Rain RainPosted Friday, September 25, 2009, at 11:18 PM
The rain continues. And continues. I know you farmers are scouting around for a good sun dancer. If anyone wants to apply for the job, I am sure you can get a lot of attention right now. At the same time we can look further east or a little bit south and be glad we aren't getting that kind of rain. It looks like we will at least get to look at the sunshine for a while today.
Paul and Cheryl Schwager have returned from a trip to Ohio to attend the funeral of Paul's brother, Louie. Louie and his wife Bell were frequent visitors to Rector until failing health made the trip too difficult. He was a sweet, light hearted, outgoing man and I too will miss him. The Woman's Club of Rector kicked off the club season on Saturday with a breakfast meeting at Bowden's restaurant. President, Glenna Bookout was unable to attend as she is still recovering from her newly broken hip but Vice President, Barbara Vangilder stepped up to lead the meeting. Can't wait to see what's on their agenda for this season. My dogs have taken advantage of the soft wet ground to find new escape routes from the back yard. If you don't know my Abby, she is like the famous Marley with eye liner. She is sweet and lovable, but sort of overly enthusiastic and somewhat training resistant. And smart, did I mention that? After I found and blocked up the first hole under the fence, Paula went out to the compost box. First she had Abby lie down and "stay" before going out the front door. While she was in the side yard, Abby used her doggie exit to go into the fenced back yard and stand quietly at the fence keeping an eye on Paula. When Paula went back into the house via the front door she found Abby precisely where she had been when Paula left her, just as if she had really "stayed". Maybe she thought that Paula wouldn't have noticed her as she was silent outside at the fence. Don't forget if you haven't paid your property taxes yet the deadline is nearing. Well, that is all the news I have for this week, so I will sign off. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this column. It is really your news that sparks our interest. Are you new in Rector? We want to know about you too.Let me know. I really love hearing from all of you. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net.
