Midway Through SeptemberPosted Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 10:31 PM
Here we are midway through September. I love this time of year. It won't be long before we can see the leaves beginning to turn. Our wet summer should help us to have some great color this year. The farmers are beginning to harvest and will be busy for a while longer. Good luck to you. I know this is a stressful time for you and the weather is so unpredictable. We are all hoping for a good harvest for you. We really like for our farmers to be happy.
I didn't mention last week that Frances Haas is home again. Her daughter, Ruth is spending some time with her. Good for both of them. Good for the rest of us too, Ms. Frances. We are certainly glad to have you back where you belong. Ms. Demetra Shultz, (you remember her, our Labor day Grand Marshal) had a grand surprise the Sunday before Labor Day. Unwilling to miss the opportunity to see his sister riding in the parade, Bill Elsass and his family came from Fayetteville to visit and watch our parade. Bill and his wife Nannette along with their son, Keit and his wife Angela and grandchildren Andrew and Matthew came in on Sunday and stayed until Monday afternoon. They had a good visit with Demetra and Terry and got to see a lot of old friends at the picnic. The children really enjoyed the picnic. They want to come again. Who knows, maybe we can get them back every year. We do have a good time, don't we? Speaking of the parade, check out channel 21, Your Hometown Channel. They filmed the parade and are running the film at regular times throughout the day. Again Leland Blackshare and Mark Manchester did a fantastic job of narrating. Thanks, guys. Over the Labor Day holiday Flora Randleman entertained a number of out-of-town family visitors and guests. There was Elsie Plunkett of Los Altos, CA, Judy Kusalich of Soquel, Ca, Sandy Archer of San Rafael, CA, Patty Adams of Draper, UT, Joe and Martha Sanford of Mountain Home, Darrell Sanford and family of Evansville, IN, Jim Stallings and granddaughter Alex of Leavenworth, KS, George and Linda Fox of Yuma, AZ, Bonna Smith of Marmaduke, and Jo Carolyn French of Thorton, CO. George and Linda (Stallings) Fox stayed at the home of Larry and Betty Essman during the Labor Day holiday and attended Linda's RHS class of 1959 50th reunion and the Labor Day picnic. On Tuesday after Labor Day they left for Maryland to visit his brother, but had a wreck in Lexington, KY. Both were hospitalized. Linda has broken ribs and internal injuries, but George had spinal injuries requiring surgery. Their children and his brother have traveled to Lexington to be with them at the hospital. Let's keep them in our prayers. It is chemo week for Jim Stone so let's cheer him on. He is feeling pretty good these days and we want him to continue to do so. Four more treatments to go after this. Lane Wozniak missed our Labor Day celebration this year because one of her God Children in Michigan was getting married and she made the choice (go figure) to be there instead of here. She got to visit with her old time friends and eat her favorite foods. She is back in town now and I think she is having some remodeling done. Let's all go see what she's doing. See you there. I don't believe I mentioned that Steve Malin was in town over Labor Day weekend. He was here and was even pressed into service cooking at the kitchen at the picnic. What a guy. I can't say enough about the men who stayed out back grilling that yummy chicken. Thanks. It was awesome. Well, time to go. Have a good week and let me know what goes on with you! Thanks to everyone who contributes. I really love hearing from all of you. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Thank you so much for all your emails and phone calls. |
