Life After Labor Day

Posted Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 11:38 AM

It's the day after Labor Day, without a doubt the tiredest day of the year for Rectorites. Maybe that's why it always seems to cool down after Labor Day. Our energy levels fall so low we actually suck it out of the atmosphere. Anyway, did you have a wonderful time at the picnic?

The parade was marvelous! We had some terrific floats, didn't we? I'm a little partial to the First United Methodist Church's float of course. I also liked the class of 58's float. And the Jones Family and all the rest. There just weren't any lousy floats at all. Thank you to everyone who worked on float for our parade. We loved them

Wasn't Ms. Demetra Shultz just an absolutely lovely Grand Marshal? I loved her big beautiful hat and I think she was just stunning in that blue. Maybe we should start a new fashion trend and bring the big hats back. They are so much more glamorous than just sun screen. She interviewed well too and is extremely photogenic, don't you think? A lovely representative of our lovely town.

Don't you think our Cougar band good this year? They are getting better every year. It was wonderful to see and hear the ASU marching band too. There you go, Cougar band members, just a few more years and you too could be marching with the big band. Keep practicing.

It was good to see Mary and Jimmy Crews and the Horton sisters. Ethel (Stafford) Cox's niece Diane (Reddick) Adams and her husband Donnie just jumped right in to help with serving at the Community Center. Thank you so much. Thank you so very much Theresa and Shayne Roofe for spearheading that event. Of course, as usual there are so many people who helped cook and serve and cleanup it is impossible to list them all. It was a grand meal and I want to thank everyone who had a hand in it. It was delicious.

I met a most delightful little girl while I was there. Morgan. I am sorry. I asked her name and who she belonged to and forgot before I could write it down. Anyway, Morgan you know who you are. She has the most beautiful copper red hair and is so very polite. Thank you, Morgan for being such a sweetie and thank you ,Mom and Dad, for giving her those qualities.

Pat Speers is indeed in town and doing a marvelous job of visiting with just everyone she can. A trip to church with her friend netted her meetings with relatives and in-laws she had not seen in years. That was a bonus. She is burning up the roads to visit with as many as she can before she heads back to Alaska. Thanks for including me in your busy schedule, Pat. I know how hard it is to see every one you want to when you have such a limited time.

Carol Stone has also been in town. She joined us Sunday night at Rob and Cathy Louder's for a catfish extravaganza. She says Bro. Jim is doing very well. For that we are all glad. There is not enough room in this column to list everyone who was there, but let me say the food was wonderful as always and the company was the best. Thanks, Rob and Cathy.

I have much more to say, but I really have to get this in to the paper now. More to come next week.

Let me know what goes on with you.! My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Thank you so much for all your emails and phone calls. I love hearing from you.
