Visitors and Pageants

Hello, everyone! We have had a beautiful start to summer vacation, haven't we? A little rain, a lot of sunshine and moderate temperatures. I have enjoyed the days when I don't have to have the air-conditioner on and the nights that we have a cool breeze.

Good weather for entertaining and that is just what Ms. Cleta Simmons has been doing. Yep. First of all Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Littles of Desoto, MO dropped in unexpectedly. Ms. Cleta was thrilled to death to see them again. They are old friends from childhood. Mrs. Littles lived on a neighboring farm when she and Ms. Cleta were children. Oh my gosh, can't you just imagine the things they had to talk about, the memories they share.

Then another surprise visitor arrived. Ms. Cleta's nephew Ronny Whittaker from Chaffee MO came to visit. They had a lot to talk about too. I know Ms. Cleta enjoyed all her company. She was certainly sounding perky when she talked to me.

In case you aren't aware of this, the newly arrived Ivy Benson has won her first pageant. No stage mom there of course, or stage gramma either. There are some adorable pictures on Facebook.com. Nicole is looking pretty good too. Good to see.

Have you seen Susie Bell since she got back from her vacation? She has the cutest hairdo. Caribbean braids and they look so good on her. She and Pastor Bell took their vacation last week and went on a cruise to the Caribbean. Pastor Velda said she mostly kicked back but Susie was "out there". She played her guitar and sang in a talent show on board to an audience of more than 700. Way to go! And welcome back both of you.

If you have a computer you must see this video on Youtube:

You will recognize the guitar player on the left. Yep, it is our own Joey Pruett. If you like Doo Wop and if you are anywhere near my age (which is almost but not quite ancient) you probably do (doo wop, doo wop, doo wop), you will love listening to this group. I want to hear more of them. I will let you know where they will be playing around here. If you don't have a computer you can just come and see them.

Speaking of bands, Reno Smith and I went to Jonesboro Saturday night and had dinner at the Brick House. We stayed around to listen to the band for a while. The food was excellent and the band was pretty good too. It wasn't Doo Wop, but we enjoyed ourselves.

Jim Stone played golf Friday for the first time since his surgery. And he won! I won't reveal the name of his opponent to protect the innocent, but Jim is a pretty happy fellow right now.

Does anyone want to buy some collectable Barbie Dolls? I have several that I am liquidating, and I will make you a good price.

I need to go now. There is a woodpecker trapped under my hot water heater and I need to try AGAIN to get him out. Yes another gift of our great hunter cat, Taboo. She and I are about to have a serious talk. This is a petite little black kitty and I never know what she will surprise us with on any given morning. Or, for that matter in the middle of the night. I am not really good at dealing with injured, frightened animals before my first cup of coffee. How she manages to catch a full grown woodpecker I don't know. I can only assume that she stalks them while they sleep. She is going to be so angry if we put a bell on her and right now I am considering just that.

Thank you to everyone who shares their stories with me. I really enjoy hearing from you all. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Just a few weeks until the Gaither Event. I hope you have your tickets. I think there may be some left. Hurry!
