Summer is Here

Posted Monday, May 25, 2009, at 1:13 PM

I am writing this on Monday, Memorial Day, the day set aside to honor our veterans and their families. These are the people who have put their lives on the line to insure that we keep the freedoms our Founding Fathers set out for us. For this I am grateful. For this I am prideful. For this I am hopeful. We live in a country that offers us the opportunity to be whatever we want to be. We can choose, we can accept, we can decline and we can dream. We have a chance at whatever is our greatest desire. For these things we owe our veterans. Thank you, each and every one. Now our mission is to make the most of our lives, to live every day to its fullest, because someone else has sacrificed so that we may.

May God bless us all.

Frances Haas been doing just that as she visited with her Houston, TX family, the Brennans. That would be Douglas, his daughter Isabella, she's 5 years old, his mother, Liz and his sister, Faith. Frances had a wonderful time with them all. Faith will be getting married soon to David Robbins. David is now serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. Let's keep him in our prayers so Frances can tell us all about the wedding when he gets home.

Sgt. Brooks of Jonesboro has paid the ultimate price, killed in the line of duty. Let's say a prayer for his family.

I suppose you have heard that Cyndi Corkran is moving back to Eureka Springs. It has been so good to have her as part of our community, I am really going to miss her and I know a lot of other people who will. Cyndi has certainly left her mark on Rector and we will be able to enjoy her works for a long long time. Thank you, Cyndi, for all you have done for and with us. Don't stay away too long. I am going to a party at Georgia Sallee's later so we can all make Cyndi feel guilty about leaving us.

Lane Wozniak took advantage of the pretty weather last week as she and Reno Smith drove up through MO and around looking through antique shops and that Mile Long Yard Sale. Of course Sunday evening she packed her "tornado bag" and prepared for another run to the Church basement in case the siren sounded. Thankfully, it did not. Not here, anyway.

It seems we are also losing the Earl's. I suppose you have noticed the appliance shop is looking pretty bare. Jessica and Richard and Tillie Rose are moving to Clear Water Florida. Ah, I will miss them. Jessica assures me they will visit us and I hope to hold her to that. And of course we could just track them down in FL.

Did you see Tracy Horton with her new granddaughter this weekend? Gosh, I wish she could work up some enthusiasm. She is adorable, Tracy. I know, Nicole and Dustin, you had a lot to do with this too. Thanks for bringing her to see us in Rector.

I have it on good authority that Doug Stone is back on US soil and could show up here just any day now. Keep a lookout for him.

And this is the last week of school. Then it is summer fun for everyone! Now, kids, if your parents are too busy to let me know how you are spending your summer vacation, I guess you will have to email me yourself.

If you haven't already gotten your tickets to the Gaithter event you and better get on the ball. They are going fast!

I seem to have run out of news so I will end this now. Thank you to everyone who shares their stories with me. I really enjoy hearing from you. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Enjoy the sunshine.
