Windy!

Posted Monday, March 30, 2009, at 2:02 PM

Goodness gracious! I am tired of all this wind. I hope April brings some gentler breezes. I don't remember a time when we've had such high winds so often as this last month. I feel like Mother Nature has been in a sweeping fury. Or maybe just a sweeping flurry. Anyway, enough already! How about gentle spring showers. Gentle, "gentle" is the word.

Good news. Reverend Jim Stone is home in Rison from the hospital and is recuperating very well. Keep him and Carol in your prayers.

More good news! Douglas Shultz was here during his spring break. Yes he visited with his mother and sister, Demetra and Terry Shultz. They just kicked back and enjoyed each other's company for a few days. Sounds perfect to me.

Jessica Earls is on even stricter bed rest for a couple of weeks. Just an added precaution, but she is even more thankful for the meals the United Methodists are bringing her. What do you want to bet that Tilly Rose comes a little early? And can you believe it, Jessica's mother, Martha won't let me be an honorary grandma. She says that title is too special to be flung around to just anyone. As if I am "just anyone". That's okay. I will just be an honorary Auntie. They get to spoil even more than grandmas.

Mark your calendars. The Rector Relay for Life Team, WRECK, will host their annual Fish Fry from 5pm-7pm Monday, April 6 at the Rector Community Center. As always the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. The cost is $7.00 per ticket and tickets can be purchased in advance. You can call Sarah Burdin at 595-4717 or Michelle Hailey at 595-2182, 566-8895, or 240-5064 for tickets.

Also VERY IMPORTANT! The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation will be there and will be offering free (yes free) PSA screenings to males age 35 and older. This is an important test which can detect prostate cancer. Please put the word out to all the men you know who are interested in having this test. It could save a life. Please call Sarah or Michelle to register for these screenings. These tests will be performed in the conference room and we need at least 30 men pre-registered to make this possible. Please, please participate. It could be your life that is saved.

Well, I suppose it is time for me to end this. Thank you to everyone who emails, calls or sends me mail for the column. I love hearing from all of you. That is always nice. So drop me a line or email me. You can also give me a call. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net.
