So Sorry Chargers

Posted Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 11:33 PM

Things seem to have slowed down around here. Just sitting around watching the weather change. And the football playoffs, of course. I was sorry to see the San Diego Chargers lose Sunday. I know we will all be wanting to bring comfort to Paul Schwager. I am, however very jazzed that they got so far in the play offs. They are my favorite team too.

Of course the inauguration is coming up. Is anyone going to Washington from here? If you are I can hardly wait to hear from you. I am pretty excited to see the new administration begin. Looking forward to good news.

By the way Richard Earls asked me to mention that a few weeks ago a horse wandered onto his property and he put it in his lot to keep it safe. If you are missing a horse you might want to contact Richard at his shop. He would really like to see it returned to its rightful owner. And he does not want to be locked up for rustling (as we say in Texas).

Lane Wozniak and I took a weekend trip to the Big Easy, where we met up with our friend Hilary Copeland from San Diego. She was devastated by the Charger's loss too.

Lane and I drove down Friday, a beautiful day for traveling. Of course we got there in time for dinner which was oh so wonderful. We went to K-Paul's Kitchen the first evening. In case you don't know who K-Paul is, you can see him on TV in that cute little berret. It was fabulous, Darling!

Then we walked around the French Quarter looking in store windows and listening to the various street musicians and watching the mimes. It was much like strolling in down town Rector on a Friday evening. Well except that the weather was balmy. And we don't have street musicians or mimes, but I think we should. And of course, we don't have a decent Voodoo temple anywhere in town. And New Orleans was just a bit more crowded. Okay so there are some differences.

I am really glad to see that New Orleans has done such a good job of recovering after Katrina. The businesses are booming and tourists are back in droves and of course the south has a way of regenerating rather quickly. I am sure they still have a long way to go, but at least they have their heart revived.

We spent Saturday eating our way around the Quarter again.

In addition to beginning our search for the best beignet, we did some shopping and took a tour of the cemetery. Oh yes and I, of course had my fortune told. That information is not to be shared, however, except that my life expectancy has increased. Not all that comforting with the way our economy is going.

Lane had gumbo at every opportunity and I had seafood. Hilary is not a seafood fan and she still found lots of yummy things to sample.

Sunday we got our last beignet, finished up our shopping and said good by to Hilary and then started back home. It was a wonderful weekend, full of fun, frolic and friends. (and food of course). We made it safely home before 10:00 and were oh, so glad to sleep late this morning.

Now it is really late and I need to get this column in. So let me know what is going on with you. What do you think about having some street musicians here?

You can give me a call or send me an email. My phone number is 595-3173 or you can drop me a note at 514 West 3rd St. My email address is: porchswing@newwavecomm.net.

Christa,

I have been a Steelers fan for as long as I can remember. My dad has told me about Mr. Schwager loving the Chargers. I think of you and Mr. Schwager every time the Steelers play San Diego. I am very sorry that we had to beat you this past Sunday. It was nothing personal, we just did what we had to do. LOL...

Love,

Hope
