Life After the Election

Posted Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 8:24 PM

Greetings everyone! Change is upon us! Yes, the election is over and we have a new President Elect. If the candidate of your choice did not win, I offer my condolences, but I am thrilled. I believe we are on the verge of a wonderful new adventure and I hope all of you will give this President Elect a chance because I believe he has my best interest and yours at heart.

Barack Obama will be the president of us all and I believe he has the vision to lead us out of the current economic problems and to keep us safe and return us to a world position of respect and hope. I hope you will join me in celebrating our new President Elect, Barack Obama.

It is our responsibility now, to keep our congressmen aware of our needs and our thoughts. Make them aware of your concerns and let us all work together to bring this country back to the place of prestige it deserves.

We had a bunch at my house to watch the election results. Jim and Carol Stone, Candy Hill, Lane Wozniak, Georgia Sallee, Pauline Shields, Pastor Velda Bell and of course Paula Benton and me. Most of us were delighted with the outcome. We did have a couple of folks who voted the other way, but we all celebrated, just the same.

Now for the big question, "Can life ever get back to normal after this long, long, long campaign?" Oh my gosh, I am so glad it is over! I am, however, thrilled to have been able to live and participate in this historic time.

Now let's get to local stuff, the really important things.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Willie Wonka Junior" on Saturday. It was cute and fun and funny. Nancy Kemp was there with her granddaughter, Anna Wimberly, who was spending the weekend. They were having fun. One of the greatest joys of seeing the school plays is watching the cast's growth and improvement. They are terrific! Thanks to the whole cast and crew.

I have heard that Jane Fennel is now in a nursing home in Campbell, MO. I think we should all go see her. Maybe not at the same time. I have just read the most remarkable book entitled "My Stroke of Insight" written by a woman who is a brain scientist who suffered a severe stroke at the age of 37. She has lots of good advice for anyone who has had a stroke or has a loved one who has had a stroke. Let's all read that book so we will know how to help her heal. And keep her in our prayers.

Do you remember Rita (Ray) Gualtney, Frenkle? She grew up in Rector and she and my mom were best friends. She has been in the hospital with a bout of bronchitis. She is improving and I expect her to be home by the time the paper is out. Her daughter, Carol (Gaultney) Stone has been in town spending time with her. Granddaughters, Mary Small and Hope Ermert have been there too. Rita is full of praise for her friends at the Maramduke Housing Authority too. They have been there to lend a hand when it was needed.

Change is all around us outside too. The leaves are beautiful. I love the mild days and cool nights. Autumn is so splendid! We have much to celebrate this Thanksgiving.

Well, I guess I had better go. Please share your news with me. Just give me a call or send me an email. My phone number is 595-3173 or you can drop me a note at 514 West 3rd St. My email address is: porchswing@newwavecomm.net.
