Early Thanksgiving and Mother Daughter CruisePosted Monday, November 3, 2008, at 8:42 PM
By the time you read this column, the history making election will be over and we will know the outcome. I however, am writing it on Monday so I am still able to revel in the newest and most original campaign ads. OMG! I am so ready to have it over with! Every time an election comes around, I wonder if we will survive the process.
How will we ever be able to come together as one people after all the strife of the campaign? Can we be expected to just forget all the nasty things that have been said and continuously circulated over the past many months? Can we continue to survive as a deeply divided country? The answer is "Yes". Yes, we must! Until we find a way to elect a leader that does not come at the expense of dignity. Until we find a way to convince others of our attributes without frightening them we must learn to forget and look forward. Remember, at this time I do not know who the President Elect is. I have my preference and I will be sorely disappointed if he is not the one chosen, but I am asking all of you and me to get behind the new administration. Let's be one people. Let's work together. Let's soften our lines of demarcation. We are so much stronger because of our unity. And so much stronger because we have the diversity within our unity. Okay enough about politics! I am now looking forward to Thanksgiving. I think we should all start our lists of blessings to honor on that special day. One thing I am thankful for is that in October we had fewer American deaths in Bagdad since the beginning of the war except for one month. Let's all hold that thought and see if we can see fewer next month and the next. My gosh! I have been morose so far, haven't I? Well on to other things. The Brewers had a small family reunion last week, hosted by Frances (Brewer) Haas. Her sister Camille Boyce from San Diego and her daughter, Linda Starling from Cambridge, MD arrived on the 20th. Bonnie Brewer came from Easley, SC and her son and daughter-in-law Steve and Diane Brewer with their three sons, Adam, David and John were here for the week end. They celebrated Thanksgiving early with Frances cooking a delicious traditional dinner for everyone Saturday night with turkey and all the trimmings. Everyone had a wonderful time of course. They stayed out at Steve and Michelle Crancer's "Lake Place" where they thoroughly enjoyed the fishing and the beautiful colors of fall. I hear that Sue Mosley recently turned 70. Wow! Isn't she a beautiful lady? To celebrate the crossing of that milestone, she and her daughters, Laura Mooneyhan, Marki Hargrave and Terri Hodge took a cruise to the Bahamas. Laura says they laughed, slept and ate their way there and back. Doesn't that sound like a great time? They can't wait to do it again. There is talk that it will be an annual affair. I think that is a wonderful idea. Jim and Carol Stone are in town for a week. They even brought the kitties this time. I am sure we will do some celebratory eating while they are here. More on their visit next week. I had such fun on Halloween. I really enjoy seeing all the trick or treaters. West 3rd Street is a favorite for trick or treating so we always have a lot of visitors. I love seeing the costumes. Some of them are so creative. I love seeing the parents along with the youngsters. I have such great memories of Halloween's in my younger (much younger) years. We seem to have such a great bunch of kids around here. It is good to keep the fun in Halloween and not so many hurtful pranks. Don't forget the school play is this weekend. "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" will be performed many times this week for various audiences. 7:00 pm on Saturday is the public performance. If you don't have a ticket, get one now! Well, I suppose it's time to go. Thank you to everyone who shared news with me. If you haven't shared, please do. Just give me a call or send me an email. My phone number is 595-3173 or you can drop me a note at 514 West 3rd St. My email address is: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. It's time to take a drive to see the leaves. Let me know when you do! |
