Well we finally did get some rain, didn't we? And when it wasn't raining the air was so wet you could wring it out. Man oh man has it been humid! On the good news side, we have had some beautiful mild days early in the week. Also good news is: the corn is coming in and it is delicious this year. Go get yourself some of our local corn if you haven't already.

Lane Wozniak is back from a trip to San Diego, where she was able to successfully combine business with pleasure. Before she spent three days helping out one of her clients she spent a few days visiting with her old friends there. I know how good it feels to reconnect with good friends after you have moved away. She really enjoyed herself and got some work done too.

Glenna Bookout had a visitor this past week. Her granddaughter, Jordan Wiedeman came by. You will remember seeing Jordan's picture in the paper a couple of weeks ago. She recently graduated with honors. Jordan is the daughter of James and Betty Wiedeman. She and Glenna had a great visit.

Mrs. Rena Snow began her fourth of July celebration early when her daughter Janis and husband Bruce Munday of Reno NE, arrived on July 2. On the 3rd her daughter, Paige and her husband Richard Mobley came up from Little Rock and daughter, Judy Neely from San Antonio, TX.

Then on the fourth they all traveled together to Owensboro, KY to the home of Glen and Jackie Snow for the Snow family reunion. There Rena was surrounded by the rest of her seven children; Ellen Dalton of Piggott, Celia Henary of Memphis and Craig Snow of Wilmington, NC. Children, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren made a total of 52 family members descended from Rena and the late Ben Snow. Wow! What a legacy.

In addition to Rena's and Ben's family, the family of the late Harry Snow was represented by Rosemary Snow, her son Marcus and his wife and son of Birmingham, AL. Another branch of the snow family, that of Pauline Snow McDonald, was represented by Pauline's son Bob and his wife, Rita of Falls Church VA, daughter, Frances Light and her husband Watson, Laurie Light, Lanie Light Brandon and her husband Bill of West Helena.

Rounding out the group were Snow cousins Patty and Pete Madding of Atlanda, GA. Every one present on Friday had dinner at the Moonlight B-B-Q restaurant in Owensboro. On Saturday 67 relative enjoyed an afternoon of visiting, picture taking and swimming while Glen and Craig tended the barbequing of 30 chickens, hamburgers and hot dogs. Tables in a large breezeway were filled with all sorts of other dishes. Yummy!

In the evening sons of Glen, Stuart and Eric presented a long and magnificent fireworks display. It was a great weekend and a great tribute to the Snow clan.

I had a very nice note from Doug Stone. Even though he loves living in Japan and getting to surf almost every day, he still considers Rector his home and would love to move back here someday. I think distance to the beach is going to be a bit of a drawback, however. That will be sort of hard to overcome. He says, "I think everyone who has ever lived there has plans of moving back someday." Doug, come see us when you can. Surf or no surf, we'll find some way to have fun.

You might have seen a couple of familiar faces around town recently. Karen Stafford Bailey, daughter of the late Melvin Stafford and her cousin Geronda, daughter of Windell and Pat Speer, who currently live in Alaska, were in Rector to visit with some of their relatives, Trudy Speer, Harold Speer and Sherry Speer. Karen and her husband, Mike live in Huntington, AR. and have two children, Eric and Marcie. She enjoyed meeting with her kin folks and also getting a look around Rector.

I think, if you hurry, you can still get tickets for the Gaither Artist Performance. It will be at 7:00 on July 25. Now I know you don't want to miss that so run get those tickets! Right now! You will be helping the Helping Hands Foundation and have a lot of fun doing it.

Oh my! I guess it is time to end this and get it to the paper. I am going to go spend a little time at the pool and then get some errands run. I hope you are all enjoying your summer.
