It's All About the SeniorsPosted Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 10:52 AM
It is all about seniors right now! No, I don't mean the senior citizens. I mean all those who are about to graduate from high school and college! Two of the great stepping stones on life's path. And there is usually a lot of fun connected with both of them.
The Rector High School prom was Friday, followed by the after party! That accounts for all the zombie-like parents we saw around town on Saturday. How come the kids always seem to recuperate from that all night bash so much faster than the parents? Another one of those cruel jokes of nature, I suppose. I hope a few of you high school seniors remember to say "Thanks" to your folks for all that support. I also hope you realize what a wonderful time of your life this is. I know there have been some rough spots and I can't promise you there won't be more in the future. What I can assure you is that the future is yours to command. You have the power, whether you know it or not. Your future will be created out of your own decisions and it is ever changing. Don't spend too much time regretting the bad decisions, just be sure you learn from them and always know you have choices. A whole passel of folks gathered at Jessie Malin's on Saturday to celebrate Meagan Louder's graduation from ASU. It has been a long time coming and I personally love to give her a hard time about that and just about everything else, but I really look forward to watching for her future. Don't tell her I said so, but I am thinking there something grand awaiting her. We are going to see her name in medical journals. I am equally sure that her grandness is in no way connected with karaoke. There were some truly beautiful voices there Saturday, but the rest of us managed to drown them out again and again. I do believe we all had a great time. Demetra and Terry Shultz spent Mother's Day weekend with Douglas and Marilyn Shultz at their home in Springdale, AR. They had such a good time! They also visited with Demetra's brother Bill Elsass and his wife Nannette from Fayetteville and their son Kregg from Austin, TX. I also understand they met a captivating pre-schooler who lives next door to Doug and Marilyn. My goodness, don't you just love to meet one of these children (and there are many) who just are so "special" you recognize it immediately? What a turbulent spring this has been so far. More severe storms this past week. And yet, today I am looking out at the most beautiful sun shiny spring day I could imagine. I do so love being in Rector. It is full of love and life and some of the most wonderful people in the world. Yes, I am talking about you. Now let us all send out positive thoughts for the farmers. They really want to get some crops in the fields. Time to go. Stay in touch now. I want to hear about all you other college grads. And of course more high school grad stories as well. Give me a call or email me. My phone number is 595-3173 or you can drop me a note at 514 West 3rd St. My email address is porchswing@newwavecomm.net.
