Hello, again! Weren't the storms awful last week? My heart goes out to all those that lost homes and loved ones. This has certainly been a rocky spring so far. And in the midst of it all, the ebb and flow of life continues.

I said good-by to another old friend this week. Dean Wright, has been part of my life since I was born. She rests now and I will miss her. My thoughts are with John Edward, her husband and Eddie Englehardt, her son.

On a brighter note, I see that the road work on Pine Street is finally completed. I was beginning to wonder if it ever would be. Thank you, road crew for sticking with it. It looks really nice. Now, Mayor, can we work on the sidewalks?

Mrs. Cleta Simmons had company over the weekend. Her daughter Rosie and her husband Tommy from Paragould came to spend the weekend and grandson Brad Hayes and his wife, Sarah, were there too. Sunday they took a long drive in the country. It was a beautiful day for it! They had lunch while they were out. Everyone had a good time.

I had an email from Michelle Hartsfield. It seems the parents of the 2008 graduating seniors have been providing some good clean fun for the class. They are such a close group, it made everything a lot more fun. They started with a barbecue/picnic at the park. Then they were invited out to the Hartsfield farm to try their luck at a driving range (there were only 3 out of 30 that knew how to play golf) so it must have been a lot of fun to watch!

They had a fishing derby for the seniors with a $10.00 bill going to the fisherman with the largest fish (Daniel Hester) and a bright shiny penny to the fisherman with the smallest (Kelsey Shavalia). They had only 30 minutes to catch a fish.

Another month they enjoyed a hayride, wiener roast, and games. They have rolled each other in toilet paper, had a try at 3 legged races, and passed a piece of fruit to each other with no hands. They even shot foam apples at each other with a giant sling-shot.

Their latest adventure was a "Redneck Theatre" at Alex Roofe's house. Several cars drove by very slowly, while the passengers were trying to figure out what in the world we were doing watching a movie on the side of a house. It was great! Michell says "Thank you," to all the parents that provided food, drinks, and even prizes. Don't you know they will take some great memories with them when they go out to explore the world.

CONGRATULATIONS! RECTOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS OF 2008!

Another end of the school year function is the drama department's Academy Choice Awards Ceremony. That was an exciting night for everyone. I want to say thank you to all the performers who provided us with such splendid entertainment all year. I am already looking forward to next year. And I am looking for you senior dramatists to send me information about you in the next few years.

Whitney Conley and Jake Hollis are both looking to continue in the performing arts and we do expect greatness from you two. Alex Roofe plans to be an engineer and I strongly suspect it will be in the sound industry. Rachel Mathewson will join the Navy and become part of the United States Military. We expect greatness from the two of you as well. Please send me an email every so often that I can share with our readers.

And then there was the May Fest on Saturday. It was wonderful! The storms had passed on Friday and Saturday was dry and sunny, but a little bitty chill wind taunted us the whole time. Congratulations to Haven Cagle for winning the beauty contest. The judges told me it was hard to choose as all the young ladies were beautiful and had great smiles.

I did enjoy the school bands too. And I was really wanting to dance when the country band was playing. It was fun for everyone.

Well, time for me to close for this week. Stay in touch now. You can give me a call or email me. My phone number is 595-3173 or you can drop me a note at 514 West 3rd St. My email address is porchswing@newwavecomm.net.
