Playing in the mudPosted Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 10:58 AM
I'm tired of all this rain. As someone who normally enoys rainy days, I've had more than my fill of the wet weather. I fear that I'll soon be dreaming of rain.
The soggy grass and ever-present mud has been a staple for the Cougar football teams for most of the season. Last week, a senior high player told me his cleats had not been dry since week two. Traction has been an issue, since the entire field has been a large bed of mud more often than not lately. While this makes for some spectacular effects when watching a game, it also slows down the running game, which Rector utilizes heavily at each level. A muddy game is kind of fun for a change of pace, but it's less-than-ideal when it becomes the norm. On the subject of the field, I'm hesitant to imagine the shape it's going to be in next week. With junior high wrapping up their season Thursday, Senior Night taking place Friday and six peewee games Saturday, Temerian Field is closing up its work for the 2009 with a huge bang. I'd like to thank every young man who wore the Cougar blue as a part of Rector football this season. Whether you were a big splash in senior high, part of rebuilding the junior program or exposed to the game for the first time as a peewee player, your contributions don't just matter, but are vital to keeping football--America's favorite sport--a part of the community. |
