Tough loss for Cougars in 5 OTPosted Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 12:05 AM
The Rector Cougars lost a heartbreaker, in FIVE OVERTIMES, to the Riverside Rebels tonight on the Rebels' home court at Caraway. A win would have put the Cougars into next week's regional tournament at Cedar Ridge.
Despite the loss, RHS coach Mark Manchester said in a telephone conversation tonight that he is very proud of his team and the way they played hard in the marathon game. Each team had chances to put the game away in both regulation and the first four overtimes, but the Rebels finally won it on a couple of free throws with about seven seconds to play. Rector's girls defeated BIC on Monday night and have qualified for the regional tournament. They will play powerful EPC on Wedneseday night in the district tournament at Caraway. |
Ron Kemp and his wife Nancy have published the Clay County Democrat since 1977. They are excited about the new possibilities with the website and the opportunity to give a daily approach to "late-breaking" events in a weekly newspaper operation. Kemp has spent his entire career in the newspaper business and served as president of the Arkansas Press Association in 1993. The Kemps' daughter, Ashley Wimberley, has continued the family tradition, currently serving as director of marketing at the APA office in Little Rock.
