Rector On The MapPosted Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 5:21 PM
It is amazing how quickly stories now travel through both the printed version and the internet.
Rector is on the international map as a consequence of Rolling Stones lead guitarist Keith Richards donating a signed guitar to be auctioned to benefit the Rector High School Helping Hands Foundation. A story about how this is all developing will be in this week's edition of the Clay County Democrat. The donation was made through the efforts of Rector native Bill Carter, who earlier in his career managed the Rolling Stones. Rector has always been a community of giving people, helping in all types of local charity projects. It is great how Bill Carter and other Rector natives are stepping up to the plate to help their hometown. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
Ron Kemp and his wife Nancy have published the Clay County Democrat since 1977. They are excited about the new possibilities with the website and the opportunity to give a daily approach to "late-breaking" events in a weekly newspaper operation. Kemp has spent his entire career in the newspaper business and served as president of the Arkansas Press Association in 1993. The Kemps' daughter, Ashley Wimberley, has continued the family tradition, currently serving as director of marketing at the APA office in Little Rock.

Ron my Aunt in Flint Mi. saw the write up in the Flint Paper and she cut it out and sent it to me. I spoke to Bill Carter and Faxed it to him.. This article has put our little town of Rector on the map... God Bless Bill Carter...
Ron,
Perhaps this donation will begin a popular trend in the music world called, "The Rector Invasion," likened unto the previous "British Invasion." Looking forward to hearing about how this developed. Of course you are aware of the fact that the legend of the Rector Labor Day Picnic can never be replaced by a British rocker's paraphernalia. HA!
