Ron Kemp and his wife Nancy have published the Clay County Democrat since 1977. They are excited about the new possibilities with the website and the opportunity to give a daily approach to "late-breaking" events in a weekly newspaper operation. Kemp has spent his entire career in the newspaper business and served as president of the Arkansas Press Association in 1993. The Kemps' daughter, Ashley Wimberley, has continued the family tradition, currently serving as director of marketing at the APA office in Little Rock.

The McGinnis family has been a real part of life in Rector for about eighty years and maybe more because my memory doesn't go back much farther. Two of my relatives have just passed over, Aileen McCord (McGinnis) and Cecil McGinnis and we will miss them greatly. As a youngster, I used to travel by train to Rector and the conductor would put me off at the station where either Charles or Margaret would pick me up. I spent all my summers with my grandmother Ruth McGinnis at 501 N Main St. I have many good memories of Rector and some of the stories are what makes my life what it is today.
Thank you Rector, you have been good to me and my people. Dr Robert E McGinnis
I was driving to work this morning and feeling quite "weepy" as I watched the out of state electric workers drive past me and then I saw the National Guard setting up to help out. As I drove toward the fire house in Rector, I saw a dog running along the highway. I am a HUGE animal lover and so I stopped because I was worried that this beautiful animal might be killed on the road. A large pickup truck pulled up with flashing lights and I assumed there must me an emergency. When he got out of his truck, I commented that I had stopped because I was worried about the dog on the road. His NASTY comment to me was: "WHO CARES ABOUT THAT DAMN DOG. WE HAVE A HOUSE ON FIRE!". His attitude AND comment were totally uncalled for and I was offended. He probably is a church going man who considers himself better than many, but my comment to him is this: God loves all of HIS creatures and even a "damn dog" has extreme worth in our Father's eyes. So you need to reexamine your attitudes and actions towards others. Someday, that dog might be the one that SAVES your life...dogs are known to do that, you know.

My mom used to say, "dogs are people too" and she probably had a point.
Dr Robert E McGinnis author of many books where animals and man form partnerships. My family members are long, long time Rector residents.
Within the past three months two of the Rector long time residents have died. Both are mentioned in the post at the top of this page Jan 21, 2009. Recently, one of the youngest girls of the Ruth and Willard McGinnis family (my grandparents) has taken a serious turn and after ten days in the hospital is now located in a nursing home. Margaret McGinnis Beckly) age 81 is now living near Memphis TN attended by her husband Jewel Beckly. Gary Michael Beckly her son is there with his father to watch over her.
