Rector Community Guide
Posted Tuesday, November 3, at 8:01 PM
Our Rector Community Guide is being inserted in this week's copies of the Clay County Democrat.
The guide is a comprehensive view of the community and is a product we believe our readers will enjoy.
It also is designed to be distributed to those who have requested information about Rector, including prospective new residents and business owners. This is something the Chamber of Commerce has wanted to have for a long time and we believe this product fills the bill.
The guide also will be available at Rector City Hall, the Northeast Arkansas Innovative Training Center, tourist visitors centers in the region and other locations.
It was indeed a labor of love for our staff and we trust you will agree it is something in which the entire community can be proud.
Thanks especially to the advertisers in the guide who made it all possible.
A great Labor Day The results are in and by all accounts it was another great Labor Day weekend in Rector. Even in a difficult economy, the revenue for the Labor Day Picnic exceeded last year. All those who volunteered their time to make the picnic a success are to be commended. Rector is known as a community of volunteers and it is never more apparent than on Labor Day weekend...
Concert nearing sellout At a meeting of the Rector Lions Club on Tuesday and also during a planning committee session later that night, chairman Gregg Sain said tickets are going fast for the Aug. 4 gospel concert in Rector. With proceeds going to the RHS Helping Hands Foundation, the concert features a great lineup of The Isaacs, Russ Taff, Dailey and Vincent, Guy Penrod and master of ceremonies Kevin Williams...
Major concert being planned Rector once again will have the unique opportunity of hosting a major gospel concert this summer. Rector native Bill Carter was here last week and one of the topics covered in his visit was the planning for another Gaither-artist concert. Carter, who has been involved in Gaither productions for many years, "makes it happen" in terms of being able to attract top talent to the Rector event...
Ice Book Published The Clay County Democrat has published a commemorative booklet for the 2009 Ice Storm. The booklets are available at the newspaper office for $10. They also may be purchased at the locations of the four underwriting sponsors -- Glen Sain GMC, Sigsby Insurance, Liberty Bank and Rector Downtown Drug...
Tough loss for Cougars in 5 OT The Rector Cougars lost a heartbreaker, in FIVE OVERTIMES, to the Riverside Rebels tonight on the Rebels' home court at Caraway. A win would have put the Cougars into next week's regional tournament at Cedar Ridge. Despite the loss, RHS coach Mark Manchester said in a telephone conversation tonight that he is very proud of his team and the way they played hard in the marathon game...
Minnesota trucker's trip to Rector featured on television The humanitarian trip to Rector by Minnesota trucker Larry Kautz has been featured on a Minneapolis television station. The special journey by Kautz to help local residents following the ice storm, which involved delivering a semi load of supplies to the Rector Community Center, was featured Sunday night on Fox Channel 9...
Basketball games The basketball games today (Saturday) do start at 3 at the local gymnasium. Both junior teams and both senior teams will be playing Turrell. For those that can get away, it might be a good and enjoyable diversion to all the problems Rectorites have been dealing with over the past 10 days...
Recent days: both difficult and inspiring It has been a very difficult but inspiring 10 days for all Rectorites, helping one another and working to overcome the ice storm disaster. As Charlie Crow says in his blog posted today, it has been the Golden Rule in effect all around Rector with friends and neighbors lending helping hands in countless ways...
Rector On The Map It is amazing how quickly stories now travel through both the printed version and the internet. Rector is on the international map as a consequence of Rolling Stones lead guitarist Keith Richards donating a signed guitar to be auctioned to benefit the Rector High School Helping Hands Foundation...

Ron Kemp and his wife Nancy have published the Clay County Democrat since 1977. They are excited about the new possibilities with the website and the opportunity to give a daily approach to "late-breaking" events in a weekly newspaper operation. Kemp has spent his entire career in the newspaper business and served as president of the Arkansas Press Association in 1993. The Kemps' daughter, Ashley Wimberley, has continued the family tradition, currently serving as director of marketing at the APA office in Little Rock.
